Hi,

Wife called. She's in my car, and it's broken down. It stalled on the way into car park, but restarted and she parked up and went to her meeting.

Then as she came to leave the car park afterwards, the car stopped again. This time it won't restart. It turns over but won't fire, and the glow plug light is flashing. Breakdown are on their way.

Called local VAG spesh to see whether I could get it towed there, and the bloke said it doesn't sound like immobiliser problem, because this allows the engine to start, then cuts it out after .5 secs. He says it sounds, without having seen it, like a knackered ECU....

Any other clues? Could this be the Brake Light switch I've seen on other posts? Surely that wouldn't prevent the car from starting...?

If it is the ECU, how much am I looking at?

Cheers
W

Update: Breakdown chap thinks its fuel starvation. Hopefully not the main pump, otherwise the car's heading to the breakers...
