I think it's time to change my brake fluid. Pedal is quite soft and I don't think it has been changed in about 5 years.
Does any have any advice on how to do this myself? I read somewhere that the reservoir is also used for the clutch? Is it straight forward to do?
It's a 1999 Tdi 1.9.
Cheers

use a vacuum pump to remove the fluid from the res, top it back up, then suck 250 ml from each nipple, keeping the res topped up whilst doing so to ensure no air gets introduced.
usually though, old fluid doesn't affect the feel of the pedal until the brakes get hot, so i would also service all the brakes, clean them, check pads and discs, all rubber hoses etc...., as well as a fluid change.
brakes are quite important though so if you don't feel 100 % confident in doing this, then please take it to someone that is. foinding out you didn't do it properly is not good just as you loose the brake pedal and have no way of stopping before that very bust roundabout.

if you can get someone to help you pump the brake pedel while you take charge of the bleed nipple and checking/topping up the reservior, thats your best bet not to let any air back into the system.
