Hi all,
I popped into my local Audi dealer yesterday to price up a retrofit rear parking system and was quoted £485. I thought this was a bit steep but the salesman assured me that it would look the same as if it had had the system from the factory,so i thought"ok,fair enough"
He then told me that it is audio warning only :( and that there would be no graphic on the MMI screen. Is this the case with the factory fitted system? All of a sudden £485 seems very expensive.Any recommendations for somewhere in the South Wales are to have this done?

Cheers,

Ivor.

P.S don't know if it will make a difference or not but the car is on a 59 plate.

Sadley on my 2008 it ia audio only. The experts on the forum can advise if the sw can be tweeked to give graphical.

I do miss the front parking sensors and had been pondering getting a quote but had an idea it wouldnt be cheap.

Fathers day round the corner time to start dropping hints lol

You can enable rear display on the screen with vcds if it's a Audi parking system and your module supports the coding.

Instructions from a Russian forum

There are successful experiences enable graphical display parking sensors on the MMI.
This method was tested on my A6 and is for informational purposes. Remember that all operations are conducted at your own risk. : Rotate:

The procedure is as follows:
1. Enjoying a block number, which is installed on the machine. It is located right in the A6 for paneling in the trunk, you can not shoot. (See photo).

Block Number: 4F0 910 283. Particular attention is directed to bukovku at the end! If you have C, E or H, then everything is OK (go to step 3), if A is - you need to change the block on N.

2. Buy a box (most modern H) and without any problems for 1 minute install a new one.

3. Making changes in the VAG:
1) Connect the VAG;
2) Select the section 76 (Park Assists);
3) Select the Coding;
4) Change the second number: 2 (0? Xxxxx);
5) Click do it!

4. That's it!
If everything is done and does not work, you must update the software on the MMI (from any dealer for 30 min.).

5. Enjoy!

Info on modules

It only works on certain modules

4F0 919 283 - won't work on all revisions
4F0 919 283 A - won't work on all revisions

4F0 919 283 H - enabled from the factory

It's likely you have one of the first modules that did not support the graphic display.

Here is additional info on the modules:

4F0 910 283 - 4 sensors, no graphical support
4F0 910 283 A - 4 sensors, no graphical support

Those with back up sensors on C6 A6 cars, just got help on ability to add parktronic graphic via vagcom. Hope this helps others, as it is a nice easy feature to add.

Open Module [76] - Parking Aid

Short Coding:
0?xxxxx: Optical Illustration
0 = without Optical Illustration in Display
2 = with Optical Illustration in Display

Save changes, then enable Graphic display in MMI under the Parking menu. (Click yes when prompted for default work group coding from VCDS)

Not my work from my knowledge base.. ;)

P.S don't know if it will make a difference or not but the car is on a 59 plate.

For your reg of car you should have a newish module will check tomorrow.. maybe you know or not but on control modules sometimes the rev (letter@end) denote software/pr code/rev could be you not have module capable of support??

parking sensors last time I ask at a dealer (inc.painting) was near enough a £100 (a piece as 4 are used per bumper) got 4 unpainted new from German seller for £40 delivered off ebay!! ;)

*** 4F0 919 283 / 4F0 910 283 are the same thing ( xxx 919 xxx x denote Hardware P/N) ( xxx 910 xxx x denote Software P/N) ***
*** Ross Tech link http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A6_%284F%29_Parking_Aid ***

Buying a VCDS cable enables you to connect your laptop to a port in your car via the cable. When you have the cable, you can then download software to your laptop which allows you to do a diagnostic fault scan on your car (a service that'll cost you £50+ from a garage) and enable certain features on your car. For instance programming your passenger side mirror to automatically dip when you engage reverse gear so you can see the kerb & I've enabled a 'chirp' when I lock the car.

Hope I've not taught Granny to suck eggs by misunderstanding your question there.

Edit: Just realised I've not made this relevant to your post, sorry. With the cable & the software you can change a code in your car's ecu so that your car displays the parking sensor function on your MMI screen according to Chris. Also, if you don't want to buy a cable yourself, there's a section on the forum which lists other members who have the VCDS cable & software who will happily do this coding for you for just a few beer tokens. Check the thread - VCDS User Locations.

Gup,

so if I buy module 4F0 919 283 F will it be automatically enabled for graphical display or will I need VCDS still?

Yes but make sure you have MMI High and remember your 'front' sensors won't work as I doubt they are wired in ;)

Chriseybaby

Thanks for reminding me :(

I do have MMI High so it should be ok. I have found the module for £50 delivered, can I use the old module, plus some wiring,for hooking up the front sensors?

Guest 2
08-06-2012, 08:51 AM
I think you will need anothe rmodule for the front then wiring to hook it all up

Don't you only have 2 sensors on the front iirc? You'll probably get a fault saying the two that are missing are broken as they're not sending a signal to the module.

Just guessing but this applies to the rear if any are faulty.

I`m also interested in this, i also have mmi high with rear parking sensors but have no visual warning. If i added module 4F0 919 283 F i can have that display on my screen once coded in? If so where is it located?

Chriseybaby
08-06-2012, 09:05 AM
Yes I would need to get 2 more sensors and the wiring, but I had hoped my existing module, which I plan to replace, would accept the front sensors so I could have an audible warning at the front and graphical at the back or maybe the graphical at the front and audible at the back.

I guess the main question is are the front and rear PDC modules interchangable?

Looking at the list, if you get F it should be factory enabled so no vcds coding needed (I hope I am right on this one)

You may also need the switch in your dash to enable front parking sensors manually http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?132199-How-do-front-parking-sensors-work&p=714773#post714773

Not know if necessary not done this retro-fit

I guess the main question is are the front and rear PDC modules interchangable?

The interchangeable as far is plugging in/out, will work with module, but you may have seen there are sensors with 90 degree plug end and 180 degree...
Front I think are 90 degree because lack of space go at front, check your fronts, have you the holes/number plate holder with holes for the other two sensors@front??
As the number holder can be swapped out with holes in for sensor... so no drilling hole

Chriseybaby

Am I right in saying that the F version has factory enabled graphical display so it would not need enabling in vcds, it will just work when its swapped in?

Module behind right boot trim, if you not got VCDS/ access to, then don't know but maybe if you rang Audi dealer gave your VIN would be able to tell which module rev you have? as your car 2007 may have newish module, then all you need is code change done from a forum member/tame mechanic/audi

No holes in the number plate holder, so would need one of those (have been looking on ebay), pdc button, 2 more sensors, cables and the module. How hard can it be....

You need H as 8 sensors (you got rears?? PDC's) IMO if you got no VCDS/access to, as F is 4 sensor module is rear pdc, again not my work just info in post 5, I'm just getting newer module swapping out which is simple plug in/out as software update same £ or more compared to module

My only question is, can it be found in the section where the fusebox and tools are or do you have to remove trim to find it? I had a quick look and I'm guessing trim will need removing.

you have rear PDC?? as you have module... can you confirm please

Chriseybaby

Yes its an Avant with rear PDC.

I'll check the module later, if the rain stops. Just need to know if I can use the H version without front sensors attached (Maybe worth giving Audi a call)

Again check on www from what I've read on other forums/posts you can attach connector plug with resistors in it to fool module thinking it has fronts, I don't think you can code in/out amount of sensors http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A6_%284F%29_Parking_Aid#Adaptation

I've managed to find 4F0 910 283 E which should support 8 sensors and graphical display.

I am a little confused tho, are part numebrs 4F0 910 283 and 4F0 919 283 the same thing?

Now all I need is new front number plate holder -£31 new
2 Parking sensors - £40 ish off ebay
wiring from kufatech - £80
and alot of head scratching

To all been looking at thread... I just got my new parking aid module ( 4F0 919 283 F )...

I posted some stuff from another forum post Rear parking sensors (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?133641-Rear-parking-sensors&p=724033#post724033)

After getting mine, I made a realisation... that regardless of which module you get you will still need it coded...

Reference this Audi A6 (4F) Parking Aid - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A6_%284F%29_Parking_Aid)

My original module p/n 4F0 919 283, coding was 0001016

My new module when connected had a coding of 0001106 which equals

0?xxxxx: Optical Illustration

0 = without Optical Illustration in Display

0xx?xxx: Transmission

1 = Automatic Transmission

0xxx?xx: Specification

1 = ECE-Countries (S-Model without reinforced bumper)

0xxxx?x: Chassis

0 = Sedan

0xxxxx?: Model

6 = Audi A6 (4F) / Audi Q7 (4L)

So I had to code it to 0201016

0?xxxxx: Optical Illustration

2 = with Optical Illustration in Display

0xx?xxx: Transmission

1 = Automatic Transmission

0xxx?xx: Specification

0 = ECE Countries (without reinforced bumper)

0xxxx?x: Chassis

1 = Avant (Wagon)

0xxxxx?: Model

6 = Audi A6 (4F) / Audi Q7 (4L)

What coding did you use to get the rear only PDC graphic, I have only rear sensors but the graphic still shows front sensors.

This would not be a coding issue with parking module... are you able to get VCDS log... bit perplexed by this one :confused:

Seems a bit confusing as if you had 8 sensor module eg front & back then you would have fronts as well as rears...

If a 4 sensor module would rears plugged into front show as fronts???:confused:

Blast the weather or would check...:(

Hi all,
I popped into my local Audi dealer yesterday to price up a retrofit rear parking system and was quoted £485.

Cheers,

P.S don't know if it will make a difference or not but the car is on a 59 plate.

This is how I fitted my rear sensors - Rear bumper removal help. - AudiWorld Forums (http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2800674)

I also fitted front ones but have no pictures of that.
I worked it from a small iluminated push button (from Halfords) fitted into the blank where the factory front sensor switch fits.

@ragebe I had same parking module as you and it would not accept code for graphics ... bought newer one from ebay for £30 ish IIRC, just swapped and recoded it for graphics :) ...

Your old module can be flashed to newer software ... I doubt Audi main dealer will do it but perhaps find in indi who has VAS/Autocom/VAG CAN Pro ...

I've seen some reflashed modules on ebay.de perhaps enquire if ebayer can do for you?

Otherwise try a scrapper?

Nope ;) You need something like the above which Gup has listed, or buy a replacement module.

Looking at eBay UK they're sitting at around the £60 mark.

That still doesn't support lines in its current state ;)

4F0 910 283 A - 4 sensors, no graphical support

This is what you will see if you get a supported module when you put the car in reverse.

My module is F -

That's what I got :) ... IMO the sonar display vs camera is great ;) , every car with a cam I've driven I find view odd :confused: perhaps would prefer cam over lines once used to it :) ...

Gup, would you advise where the module is located? I have an Avant, so I know from this thread it's in the offside rear fuse compartment but I can't work out what to remove to swap over units. You said something about load rail; do you mean the internal ones?

If you look here - Adaptive air suspension/parking module (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?145010-Adaptive-air-suspension-parking-module&p=803079#post803079)

You'll see its location.

Clear them all by going into the Application menu on VCDS' main menu and press Erase all DTCs then rescan and try your coding then.

Asking you to updat your MMI version if its not already at 5570.

Could be why you're not seeing the lines on the PDC.

Could be,

21087

is a screenshot. Does this mean I am at 6350?

I noticed VCDS suggests a different coding for the unit. It is currently at 000002. I cannot change this. Everytime I try, I get an error code.

highest for mmi 2g is 5570, youre currently on 11.4.0 which is a very low version.

dont change control head coding, there is no benefit.

if you do a search on here for mmi update etc you will see a howto and links where to get discs, most of the time audi are cheaper than ebay.

Audi are talking merde.

If Audi won't sell you them then get them from here - AUDI A6, A8, Q7 MMI HIGH 2G Firmware update 3CDs "5570" , Latest on 2013 | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A6-A8-Q7-MMI-HIGH-2G-Firmware-update-3CDs-5570-Latest-on-2013-/151062881923?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item232c0ca683)

Only real risk is bricking your BT module but I haven't seen anyone on here thats managed to do that.

Yeah, I probably will Chris, thanks. I'd already added that seller to my watch-list on eBay. I have a concern over the poor English in the advert: seems to suggest a non-native English speaker, where the ad has been put through Google Translate. However I've just got a new keyboard for my laptop, from China via Lithuania and it seems absolutely fine, so I'm probably worrying over nothing.

They're new and genuine so I wouldn't be worrying.

Plus they have 100% positive feedback.

If the CD's can be used more than one time you can have my set? I've already used them and don't see why I would use them again so you're more than welcome to them?

I'm not sure if the CD's can only be used once though :S, I'm sure someone will come along to advise :)

Cheers

Don't worry about the update - I did it recently and it's a simple process although time consuming. Mine took about 90 minutes and as I couldn't be bothered to find a charger and lift the bonnet to look for the charging points I had to sit in it on the driveway for the entire time with the engine running - didn't do much for my fuel economy! I did discs 1-2-3 as you would expect but then had no bluetooth. I'd previously read about having to run disc 2 a 2nd time which I did and sure enough it found another update for Handyvorb (I think) which took probably 60 of those 90 minutes to do :( On completion though everything was good with regard to bluetooth although I did (as expected) lose the battery meter and instrument cluster tweakery which will need VCDS to restore but I can live without them for the moment.

One small tip, when you read the expression 'press setup and enter to enter the menu' I found that it worked best to press and release setup (so you are in the setup mode for whatever function you have selected) and then press setup and enter - it seemed more willing to access the 'secret' menu when it wasn't already in the setup for another function but maybe that's just me!

Well, discs arrived today but nothing seems to be happening. I initially put disc 1 in the DVD box for nav, tried Setup+Enter but just got a screen saying check nav DVD. I then tried the same thing in one of the CD slots in the 6-changer in the glovebox but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Its not the Nav drive you need to put the cd's in. You need to take all the CDs out of the changer and insert the only one disc at a time into slot one in the cd changer.

Have you got the PDF file which shows the instructions on how to perf the update?

Cheers

Slightly concerning to see the screen. I've taken a couple of pics as I had to scroll down to get it all in. Is this what I should be seeing?

All done and all appears to be okay (I've lost the battery meter but will reset that with VCDS later)

So to go back to the initial thread subject and my initial reasons for posting in this thread, my £40 + £5 p&p from eBay reversing sensor module, is now showing graphic display. Hooray!

Many thanks to A6_Chris Gupster and A6H** for their help in getting me to this stage. I'll post an update on MMI update in the MMI update thread (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?117578-MMI-2g-5570-update-amp-hidden-menu)

Glad it all went okay! :D Activating the battery meter is a doddle once you've got the hidden menu activated via VCDS.

Just follow number 2 and 3 on the first post on this page A6 C6 VCDS Changes - Post & Pre Facelift (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?92769-A6-C6-VCDS-Changes-Post-amp-Pre-Facelift).

I actually did it via holding Car+Setup buttons for a few seconds, then scrolling down the green screen options to battery and ticking the box. All back and good :)

Sadly, it would appear I've either bought a dud from eBay, or I have another problem. Today, I selected reverse, had the display flash up - briefly - showing the rear sensors graphic display, then the screen reverted to what it was showing before.

There is a fault, with what looks to be the nearside sensor, which has been around for a while but that was coming up before I swapped the module and I'd get a long beep, followed by nothing, or a continuous tone. However when I fitted the new module, although I occasionally got that sensor doing the beep stuff, at least the display was there and just showed a constant red bar for a faulty sensor.

I did wonder if this was a battery low thing, as I'd been sat in the car for a while but I took it out for a quick drive around and had the battery meter back up to 90% and still doing the same thing.

If you have a fault with the sensor the display would do this erratic behaviour where it works on occasions and not at other times ...
I experienced this as well :) ... I just swapped out the sensor to rectify fault ...

My car at purchase had very old revision of sensors most failed over the first year of ownership ...
I found some 4x unpainted brand new on ebay.de for £40 ... sprayed at home with a spray can ...

P/N is 7H0 919 275 E ... with GRU on the end to denote unpainted ...

Well, as part of my xmas/new-year getting **** in gear, I've bought a couple of sensors from some nice chap in Manchester. They're unpainted but I've got some paint left over from stone-chip fixing, so don't see that as a problem. What I've not been able to find, is some instructions/videos on actually replacing a sensor. The outer left is the one that has failed the most often, however the inner left occasionally throws up a fault on VCDS, so I'm planning to change outer left, then inner left if that still keeps failing. Should anybody - Gup? - have an idea of procedure to replace a factory-fitted sensor, please drop a line in here.

Put a bit of paint on one, took it in with my car for it's 140k service and MOT on Tuesday and the nice garage man fitted it for £20. Cost me about £17 from eBay. Works fine and I have my PDC up again :)
