Hello, I recently retrofitted an RNS 510 head unit and 5KO 035 730 bluetooth to my MK.6 Golf.

Everything works fine and my phone is connecting to the head unit via bluetooth.

Unfortunately I can't get the mic to work for voice control or outgoing calls.

Mic cable (part of the wiring harness) goes directly to the bluetooth module under driver's seat.
Anyone have any idea why?

Would this be a "coding" problem or something else?

Did you code anything when you fitted the radio?

Thanks, Keith.

I got a bloke to install the bluetooth module and mic and when he finished the installation it didn't seem to work (RNS 510 didn't look for my phone). So he said he went ahead and did some coding anyway (not sure exactly what coding he did). Later on when I got home I disconnected it all and reconnected and it worked fine (phone paired with RNS 510 and could make outgoing calls via RNS 510 but mic wasn't working).
Also, phone book and calls etc. are not showing up on the MFD between the clocks. (I don't have MFSW- Multi-function Steering Wheel)) Would it be a case of just getting it coded again?

Has anyone else had a problem with the mic not working without coding?

Thanks, I saw those links already but still no luck. I would be happy to sacrifice the voice control if I could just get the mic to work for phone calls. I have the standard wiring harness that links the RNS 510, 5KO 035 730e bluetooth module and mic and I assumed that this'd be all I need.

Do you think that if I brought it back for coding that it'd make any difference?

I don't use my phone in the car so I can't tell you whats needed. If you've never had anything enabled/coded with VCDS then you really don't know what it missing do you?

Your in Dublin so I can't pop around. ;)

I finally got it sorted. Took the head unit out again and spotted that there's an option to send the mic cable directly to the rear of the RNS 510 (pins 1 and 7) rather than directly to the bluetooth module under the driver's seat (the way it was originally connected).

I changed the connections (two plug in connectors) and as a result my mic is now working properly for calls and voice dialling. :D

There's still nothing showing on the MFD between the clocks but I guess I need coding done for that to work.

Thanks for your help.

Not sure if this post is of any help to you. It's almost 18 months ago so can't remember exactly what I did to fix it. If you remove the RNS 510 from your dashboard and see all the connections then maybe my post above will make sense.

Good luck.

There are different harnesses available. On the first one i did there were two plugs for connecting the mic on the RNS510 harness depending on whether you had bluetooth or not. The one i did last weekend had only one place to connect the mic, but it is definitely on the harness which is plugged into the cars harness and then the RNS. Not at the bluetooth module. I believe its different if you have a non-VW bluetooth module (e.g. fiscon).

coding is usually needed to get display working on the MFD.

Thanks for the reply but i have sorted this now, I used a bridge cable to run from the BT module to the rns510 and back to the BT module, works a treat now, voice control of the phone and all functions of the rns510 is great!!
