View Full Version : Xenon lights and washers
Hi,
The more i read on the forums the more i think i am going to have problems with my new car. It does have the Xenon lights but no washers.
I read a post about xenon lights requiring washers and self levelling for the MOT, mine self level but dont have washers. I found this on wiki and it looks like there is an eu directive. Any opinions???

Dirt buildup on headlamp lenses increases glare to other road users, even at levels too low to reduce seeing performance significantly for the driver. Therefore, headlamp lens cleaners are required by ECE Regulation 48 on vehicles equipped with low-beam headlamps using light sources that have a reference luminous flux of 2,000 lumens or more.[15] This includes all HID headlamps and some high-power halogen units. Some cars have lens cleaners fitted even where the regulations do not require them.

Thats odd, when the xenons are specced the washers come as part of the option
I think something has gone very wrong, these are my codes from the service book -

Are you sure you dont have the washers? Turn the headlights on manually using the switch to the dipped beam and pull on the wiper stalk for the wash and see what happens

Rhanks for your help. I think I'll stop reading the forums for a bit :)

Glad you found them. Took me a while to figure out where mine were...then realised theyre that plastic square in the bodywork underneath. They slide forwards, spray, then retract after to leave the bodywork flush at the front.

Do the headlamp washers develop a tendency to not retract back inside their little door? One of mine was left poking out the other night after using them, as soon as I touched it, it shot back in again, I suspect going over a decent bump would have the same effect ...
