Hi all.
Im new to this site, i have just purchased my first golf. A 2000 (w) Golf GTi 2.0.
I have noticed that there is a small red LED light next to the door lock. However the LED never seems to light up???
Can some one tell me when its supposed to light up!!!!
Thanks.

Hi
The light in question is supposed to light up when you lock the car. I think in your case you have an alarm, which when armed will cause the led to flash. is your car key entry or do you have a blipper with the key built in ?

Hi.
Thanks for reply, my car has the key fob with the folding key, and 2 buttons.
1 to unlock, 1 to lock.
The car locks and unlocks ok, I have also tried using key, but still no light.
Does this mean it knackered!!!!
Thanks again for help.

Hi
With your key, you blip once to lock and arm the alarm and I think you press it twice to deadlock it ( Someone correct me if I am wrong ).
With mine, I turn the key once to lock and the led flashes but if I turn it twice it deadlocks but with no led flashing.
A handy thing to try with your set up is get into the car, start her up and open all the windows, switch her off and close the door. Press to lock on the fob, but hold the lock button in, all your windows should close.
once the car is locked, try pressing the open button on the fob and hold it in and all your windows should open.
Sorri, got sidetracked there, i.m not sure what the problem is with yours. Are there any other lights on, your dash, courtesy lights, puddle lights ??

Thanks,
My car has puddle lights, which work ok, all interior lights work ok. I will locking with the windows down tomorrow, I am presuming that the led just dosen't work!

Hi
It is handy to have a working led as it could deter thiefs.
If it was me, I would take it to an autospark to see what he could do for you.

My thoughts exactly! i may take the door panel off and see if there is a loose connection anywhere!
I may even try and see if the alarm actually works!
i have noticed that there is a small button at the base of the pillar between the drivers and passengers door.
The manual isn't much help on the matter.
i will just have to have a play in the morning.
Thanks again for your response!
Just an after thought that i have just had, when i lock the car, it sounds as if the doors are locking and then unlocking again! i'm pretty sure that the doors are locking and having never owned a golf before i cant be sure if this is the normal noise!
Once again i will have to check in the morning.
Im going to be busy in the morning!!

The wee button you are describing is to switch your alarm interior
sensors on and off. If you are testing the alarm, best to leave the drivers
door window open and arm the car, leave it a minute and then put your arm
in and wave it about. If it doesn't go off, try pressing the wee button
at the base of the pillar incase your sensors are off.
Just thinking, you could arm the car with the fob, wait a minute and then open the car with
the key.
Hope this helps.

Ok. I've just been playing in the car. I locked myself in the car and waited a few minutes then waved my hands franticly around the sensors, and the hazard lights flashed a siren sounded (i thought it would just be the horn), so i can confirm that the alarm works. I then put the windows down and tried to lock and shut using the remote. It only locked the doors.
tried using the key and the windows went up as well!
so im now non the wiser!

Ok. When you tried to lock the car using the remote and she locked
but the windows didn't go up. Did you press lock on the blip and hold it in ?
The fact that the alarm didn't sound when you opened the boot with the key
and the siren didn't sound yet it did when you triggered the interior sensors could indicate
a knackered siren unit especially in a car of your age.
As for your LED beside the door pin, most likely cause would be wiring, secondally water has got into it.
If you are playing with the car today, take the door trim off and have a wee look.
Get back to me and let me know how you get on.
Good luck.
