You can downlaod a copy of shareware VAG-COM from the below link..

its shareware... not full version however it will do everything you need... it still reports all errors... just some error "TEXT states shareware, however i have a full list of all codes and reason.

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/

I am still runing version Release 409.1 via a Serial cable as i have one of my old laptops up as a "CAR" pc..

Spend a bit of time reading ross tech and install instuctions.. (some of the leads also copy with the shareware software)

If its for the B6, you will need a ODB2 ( OBDII ) lead.. in a form of USB or Serial connection to your PC or laptop..

these leads are on ebay all the time for a max of £30.. however at the moment theres none on there, think its due to xmas... normally theres loads.. so just keep your eyes open!!

Cheers

PLEASE NOTE... HAVE A READ OF THIS LINK BEFORE BUYING ANYWHERE FOR THE TYPE OF LEAD REQUIRED

Have a look at this link...

The port is in the cabin.. Open the drivers door. put your head into the footwell and look up.. its on the right hand side next to the door trim, BELOW the little shelf,

I have included a photo where i have placed a red arrow.... (the photo is of a left hand drive car..)

the ones you have showed dont support the CAN BUS system... i was told by the seller from the US that mine will most likely have the CAN BUS system. is he right?? or is he tryna rob me lol

id disagree, yours will probably be the kkl, not the canbus, canbus was introduced with the new range in 2004/5 so it depends really on when your car was registered.

i am currently in the process of importing some more stock so if you would like a reasonable cable (£12 including P&P) let me know mate and i will hold one back for you when they come in. other than that, try alpha-bid, hes a very good guy, tell him eshrules-enterprises sent you ;)

The Rosstech website has a list of the break-points for the various systems.
The ebay item looks like the real deal but I doubt you will get it for $75.

my car was registered in 2004 so i think it will be on the CAN system. i have purchased it from alpha-bid and they told me that this was the one i needed. if u say he is a very good guy then he wont con me lol..
