Does anyone have the interior (lights) wiring diagram for a 3 door, or have any idea why the light in the boot wont work even with new bulb fitted.
Also the near side number plate light won't work with a new bulb in.

Hi Ancho,
Do you have access to a Multimeter to check whether there is 12V at both of the bulb holders when the boot is open or the sidelights turned on? Thats the first thing I would check.
Then, for the number plate lamps, try swapping the light units over and see if the fault moves with the bulb holder. If it does, buy a replacement number plate lamp - it could be that moisture has got into the contacts and corroded the terminals. If it doesn't then you have a wiring fault. Check that you have 12V between the Grey/Brown wire and an Earth Point (bare screw head or body fitting usually works). If not, then you wil ned to check the connection between this point and the On-board supply control unit.
With regard to the luggage compartment light, again check that you have 12V when the tailgate is open (can't do this unless it is!!!). The Green and Red wire is the supply, so you should have 12V between this and an earth point. If not the signal output from the Convenience system control unit may be at fault - or could be a damaged wire between the two.
Hope this helps?

Hello,
For the luggage compartment light i don't get any voltage at all.
Swapping them doesn't fit, getting voltage of 0.58-0.60 using the two terminals inside that space, but since cheak them they both dont work now.
Convenice system control?
thank you for your help :)
Check the boot lid lock is showing on the dis as open, maybe remove the boot lid cover & check or any leaks from the wash wiper as this will affect the lights given water drips down onto the lock & plate area & the switch signals the boot light to turn on as well.

The light doesn't show up on the cluster unit, i had a new rear wiper fitted as it was just pouring out screen wash so that could be the reason for that
Remove boot cover & all connections, check for corrosion, clean up & test, had this before, sometimes new parts needed & sometimes just cleaning things up made them work again.

Hi Ancho,
With the number plate lamps, I would pop them both out and have a good look at the terminals if there is a slight leak at the back, those terminals just corrode up...mine had actually coroded through completely!
If you check the voltage with the side lights on between one number plate terminal (one with the grn/red wire and an exposed earth point on the chassis somewhere (screw/bolt head or similar). Should have 12V. If not. Convenience moudule would be my next port of call.

Also agree with NHN on this. If you have had the dreaded washer motor leak, then the rear # plate lights will have got a good soaking! Corrosion of these terminals is a def. possibility! Number plate lights are not that expensive from an Audi dealer, or if you can find a scrappy with an A3 that hasn't already had the lights taken, or indeed suffered the same fault! I recall something like a tenner each for the lamps....cheaper than wandering around a scrappy!
Let us know how you get on.

The switch for the boot lid wasn't fully conected and it was slightly corroded and now the luggage compartment light works.
On the handle plate there are two seperate parts for it, there is the house with the handle and there is the handle switch and the light terminals on the other. It is the part with the handle switch and light terminals which is at fault, it looks to have melted and you can see through the plastic that the wire underneath has seperated.
I need the part number for the handle switch and light terminals, all i can find is the part number for the handle and the housing.
Do you know the part number for the switch and terminals? or the proper name for them?
Many thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
Sorry, not to hand....I'll have a look on ETKA over the w/e as I am away on business at the mo.
Alternatively, you could always go to your local Audi dealer and check with them....you'll probably end up buying those specific parts from them anyway (if indeed they are availble)....or you could always go to a breaker and get the complete lock bits if you can, but you will need to change over the lock barrel from your car.
Yeah just goto the dealer tbh, for these parts, they will pull up your vin & find exactly what you need.
