Hi,
I'm looking to buy (have been for a while) and audi a4 s line tdi, i was looking at b7 models but budget can stretch to b8 model. Spec wise it has to be s line, tdi, sat nav, parking sensors would be good, quattro would be even better. The only concern is mileage on these cars, i've driven a b7 170bhp and liked it very much but prefer b8 styling.
Would like to hear opinions on following engines:-
143bhp, 170bhp, 3.0 tdi v6 would make me:o.
Budget is around £15K.
Thanks

I have the 143bhp. Its never given any problems and its nearly done 80K. Averages 45mpg. Will do over 50mpg on long easy runs
If you have the choice I would go for the 170 or the 3.0tdi. Mines a company car and didnt the choice on engine :-(

Same here, 143bhp........... 59 plate so its about 2 and a half years old. Now got 111k on it, never put a foot wrong. Wonderful, but the 170bhp would be more fun I think. Like Derek, mine is a company car and no choice o the engine!

It's more than styling. The whole car is different...platform, engine etc. The B8 uses common rail diesel engines and they are smoother and quieter than those in older models. They also don't "smoke" under acceleration in the way that I have noticed older VAG units doing.
I've driven the common rail 170 (albeit in an A6) and would now choose it over the 143 - but that's not to say the 143 isn't a good engine too. I not had problems with the engine in mine (average mileage), just issues elsewhere.

I drive a 143. I am currently looking at a change and have been driving a 170.
I don't think there is much difference between them. The cr engine in the 143 is excellent. If you have the chance the 3.0 is the choice if you can afford it! Tried one 2 years ago with s tronic.

I agree with all said and the B7 and B8 are caulk and cheese..

Mines a 143 multitronic with 41k on the clock and it has progressively got quick and more economical as I guess you would expect.

MPG......A roads at speed limits upper 40's low 50's, on a run 50+ is acheivable, but start driving the thing and 30 something will soon come up.

But to reiterate if you can push to a B8 then do it.

drove a b8 the other day (someone i work with), it was the 143 bhp version. now i've driven a b7 and b8 i can see how different the cars are, much prefer b8, just need to find the right one at a decent price.
I've read mixed views about cargiant, has anyone brought a car from their?

I just purchased a 09 A4 Avant 170 S Line with 43000 miles on it. Got to say I am very pleased apart from the cost of fitting a tow bar will be possibly very expensive as upgraded cooling is required, see other post.

I am getting 50mpg, it really does shift when you want it to and it is very smooth and quiet. I paid the extra for the 170 over the 143 and think this was probably a good move. Time will tell.

Hope you find what you are looking for, i got mine from car shop and they seem ok, get you in and out quickly but the cars seem good having been ex lease. But at least full service history and mine seems to have been very well looked after. By the way i paid £18500, we were given 48hrs to find the same elsewhere cheaper and the difference would be paid to us, however i did search and found a couple for the same price or more so i was happy. If it was the 143 version then there are a lot more so you could possibly save more due to that!

Cheers

My MY2012 143PS is good (to be fair, it’s very good) buy my previous car was a 163BHP 320d and the 320d was quicker. What about a 143PS with a remap?

143 with a remap is something i would consider, this might be a stupid question but i've seen alot of cars advertised 'MY' what is this refering to?

Now that would make me :D.
It's finding a 170 with the correct spec i want, should there be a problem buying a car with 50 to 60K miles and paying £14500ish for it?

Nice car with good spec but i would prefer a b8 model, to be honest the price you are asking is not far off a b8 model even though it would be 143bhp version

Just found this on net and would be grateful for views on whether car is priced about right for age, spec etc:-
