I love my Golf but: Been quoted £480 for replacement clutch at local garage - fair price? I remember paying £250 for a peugeot 106 5 years ago!

Also - Turbo whistling more than before recently for about 1 month. (goes limp about once per month but no more recently - I do 2K miles per month).

Starts shuddering occasionally when Im overtaking / high revs. Will then continue shuddering in low revs until restarted.

Has done 160K miles. What do you think - is it curtains? Any advice on above would be most welcome before i spend 480 + MOT Cost - thanks for your time!

Sounds like the flywheel may be worn

a dual mass fly wheel clutch is about £300 (on ebay) dont know how long it takes for the labour costs. A VAG tdi thats done 160k is not alot. they go for ever. £500 to get it done i would say was reasonable as it should last a good few years or another160k.

Cheers for the advice Mikey + Geoff.

The Turbo whistle and the shuddering - do u think its a worry? Can easily live with it, its if she'll live with me! Also hasn't been serviced in many many miles (just got the car recently), think that would help at all? Is servicing important?
