hi all, trying to find the strange odd clunk I sometimes get when I brake...
Cant feel much and just wondered if a brake master cylinder can clunk if wearing out? the car has done 123 thou.. The brakes are spot on btw?
or maybe even the servo? it looks clean from the out side.

OK so we now know it is a 2000 quattro Avant and from Chris moving the post it must be an 8D series A4 so now we could do with knowing which engine and gearbox although I assume it is a manual.

Does it cluck each time you brake going forward or only once and then again after reversing?

aha I see where you going with that, nope not sticking rear brakes... Only when going forward and it's now n then. did 15miles today and didn't hear or notice it..
i had this problem once on an a4 it turns out some brake pads are stamped with a direction arrow in the stainless steel spring that fits inside the piston .i swopped them round and the clunk had gone

Funny you say that the pads on the near side were jumping around. so we've fixed that, not looked at the o/s yet shall have a nose.

You got there before me. I was going to ask if any work had been done on the front brakes recently.
