Have a Passat 140 tdi with a BKP engine. Just battled through the injector pain and now am stuck with a forever leaking oil engine. The car is losing oil from the back of the engine. Its had new rocker cover gasket and bolts, turbo seals are all dry.
Had a closer look tonight and when you are laid under car with feet out the front looking up there is oil dripping right from the very top left hand side of the engine. Right over the top of the clutch/gearbox. Anybody any idea where this could be coming from. It seems to be coming off the block and then onto a couple pipe directly below it before running down side gearbox and clutch housing.
Its driving me mad.

Possibly the turbo oil feed pipe.

Hi thanks for the reply. I can see the turbo connection end of the supply pipe but where does the other end run to. There are that many pipe coming around that side its difficult to see. Is this connected over to the oil pump?

I have had a think about this and I would expect this leak to be from the tandem pump or its base gasket, wipe your hand under the tandem pump when the engine is off and cold.

I think you maybe bang on here. its definetely higher up the engine block than the turbo oil supply pipe. Its not coming from the rocker gasket but it is wet under tandem pump. Now is this a new seal time or is it requiring a new pump. The rocker cover gasket is dry as a bone and having eliminated all the pipes as much as I can you seem to be right.
The oil only runs when the engine is running and warm. If its cold at first start up then for the first ten mins or so there is no leak!

I had this, it was the turbo gasket and head gasket seal which were worn!

I initially thought before looking this would more than likely be the turbo but all the turbo seals are bone dry and the turbo seems fine. So then when had closer look I have oil right down the full width of the back of the engine. So checked the rocker gasket and sure enough the last dealer snapped two bolts i assume when they replaced all the injectors and loom. So i replaced and torqued up the gasket to 10n/m wiped down as much as possible the back the engine and that is still all dry. However i am still seeing oil when im laid underneith running down from the very top of the engine at the corner close to the tandem pump. The rocker seems fine so im scratching wi this one.
I cant see anything else oil based that high up except the tandem pump which crusher pointed to. So will have that off the weekend pressure test the pump and then if i can get one replace the gasket and re-torque. if that doesnt work the spanners will be flying around the garage.
Car drives spot on. Well for a 140 bhp anyway. just the block paving at the moment that doesnt like the car.

It could be the gasket/seal or the pump. What I would do is wash the area down with brake cleaner and then run it up using a mirror to check for the leak and hopefully be able to tell where it is coming from. the seal shim for a 16 valve is part number 03G 145 215 A and costs £7.50.

MASSIVE thanks for this mate. I will let ya know how I get on. Think i need to invest in a CR engined passat and soon. Ive had 5 passats now 4 where the 5.5 and they where bullet proof if ya looked after them. this one its an 07 plate BKP and total nightmare. if its not injectors its the handbrake or a new steering column to sort the steering wheel out.
I have to wonder why I even still have this car.
Big thanks mate
