I went to change the bulbs on my 2001 A4 Avant and discovered that access not quite as straight forward.

I assume the whole light unit has to come out. I see two screws at the top but wondered if there are any more. Does anyone know what the procedure is/

It is tight but you should be able to squeeze you hand in. Behind both headlights are plastic covers. These unclip. The bulbs are held in place with a spring clip. If you've tried, but space is still an issue (N/S especially), then there are 3 torx screws to remove. 2 are easy to see and the other one is down an access hole at the front of the wing. Watch that you locate the headlight in the headlamp adjusting mechanism when refitting.

Hi Spatacus,

I cant get my chubby digits in behind the lights at all. Is the third torx screw which is down the access hole the same and does it come out completly or does it just need loosened?

With the face lift headlights it easier to remove the headlight, you will need a torx 30 and undo the 4 T30 bolts and simply pull the headlight forward this will give you plenty of room to fit the new bulbs.
