Had my A4 for a day and the damn front left coil spring broke today. It's making a helluva noise! I took her to my local indy thinking it was creaky squeaky bushes - turned out it wasn't!

Ah well, I've ordered a new one today - is it a job for my indy, or can I do it? (They charge £35 an hour and are good lads) Also, how dangerous is it - my car is uber important for work, see.

Also, I changed the oil today too (that filter is a bitch - I had to move my coolant tank out of the way) - the sump plug however is HUGE! I couldn't find a washer that fitted (of course I found this out after I took the plug off - ) I got the washer from Euro car parts and it was way too small. I ended up having to use a couple of rubber grommets (ala Vauxhall) to stop any leaking - time will tell how well this holds up. I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem?

Was it a copper washer? if it is then most motorfactors should have them, if not a new plug with washer is about £1.20 from TPS

as for the spring, leave it to the garage, its not a hard job but can be a mare, make sure you have them both changed tho, not just the broken one

Cheers guys. Looks like I'll have to get meself another spring now! gah! As for the washer, it was a copper one, the guy at ECP got it from my reg - but it didn;t even fit over the end of the plug. It's on now and I'm going to have to hope it doesn't leak until the next change - LDS couldn't even find one big enough - I even went back to my local indy and they let me dig around their bits (ooer, not a pretty thought with those guys) but couldn't find one large enough in their supplies.

Update** THIS is my sump plug: http://www.autohausaz.com/secure/PartImages/059103193.jpg according to the website that image is on, it's an S4 one.?!>!/?

I replaced my Huge Sump Plug with a Febi
MERCEDES COMMERCIAL EVOBUS TRUCK SUMP PLUG & WASHER

allen key one.
MADE IN GERMANY BY FEBI BILSTEIN
PART NUMBER WASHER 007603026109 / 03014
SUMP PLUG 1309970032
WASHER
height or thickness1,5 mm inside diameter26 mm outside diameter32 mm materialcopper DIN - ISO7603

SUMP PLUG 1S M26 X 1.5
ALLEN KEY FITTING 14 MM

Excuse the text size - I copied the details directly off of my 'online auction' purchase history. The part cost £2.50, came with a washer and looks much nicer than the original plug did - especially after the addition of of a @35mm nut welded on onetime I had to unsieze the plug from the sump... The original, b.t.w. is the type where the drive nut is way smaller than the threaded section.
