Hello VW-Audi owners,

I have a 2008 A4 2.0cr TDI 143ps SE, I'm not getting the fuel economy that I would have expected. Ex urban 64 more like 47 with very light foot, Combined 53 more like 33.

Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? If so did you have the DPF removed and ECU re-mapped and did it improve the fuel economy?

Where can I get DPF removed and ECU re-map done?

Looking for an improvement of around 25%>.

I get 33mpg with a heavy right foot, but 3.0 vs 2.0 means it's not a valid comparison.

Beware of DPF removal regarding passing new MOT rules, not heard any horror stories so far, but the new rules have only been in a month or two, looking for 25% increase sounds unrealistic to me!

Cheers SunnyBard,
If you are getting 33mpg with a 3litre and heavy foot. Looks like I might have a problem that the main dealer can deal with. Waiting for a reply from an email I sent to them this morning.

If you are after a 25% improvement, I would sell the car and buy an 'ecobox'.

I have never got more than 44mpg on a long steady run. If you have cruise control fitted, stop using it and see if that makes a difference.

As for re-mapping, I looked into this and decided against it. You'll get an increase in power and torque, with a few % improvement in economy (if you can stay off the loud pedal). However, once you have told your insurance company, you'll need to cover a good few miles to offset the increase in premium.

And as mentioned before, I would say that DPF removal is likely to have issues with the new MOT.

DPF removal can help with MPG as it restricts gas flow. If you decide to remove dpf, you don't have to have any sort of performance remap, although you must have a remap to stop regeneration process from happening.

As for the MOT, DPF's are not tested. only CAT's, emissions doesn't count on a diesel as only a smoke test is carried out.

You should be fine on the MOT. The official guidelines just say that you have to pass the smoke test..which you should anyway in a modern diesel.

Personally I think you are on a fruitless path here though...a properly working/installed DPF should have negligible affect on fuel economy. I reckon if you get it removed you will still have the same problem.

Is your car manual or auto? Auto will be lower MPG. Is it Quattro? If yes, the figures will be at least 5-6mpg lower in reality. What is your mileage? Diesels take miles to run in properly and you probably won't see the full potential of economy until 40k+ miles. Also bear in mind the official figures are produced on a rolling road, excluding air-resistance and road-resistance..and so are really a rough guide. The Audis are heavy cars!

My 2.0l doing 46mpg and still I think that is to high. previous my car was vw passat 1.9 PD and milege was 52mpg+ (12y old car ).
I'm looking forward to remove DPF as well, because in my case it almost nesesary , 95k on a clock and new DPF cost more than 1 grand + labour...:aargh4:

I would only go down the DPF removal route if its actually playing up and needing replacing. My mpg has dropped slightly which seems to happen in colder weather, and the fact I have done more shorter journeys recently than longer ones. I seem to be getting around 36mpg at present.

36mpg is dreadful! I would not keep my b8 if that was all it could do.
You must presumably be running short trips through heavy traffic?

At the moment it is a lot of short journeys, its normally around the 45-50mpg at least! and coming from a Range Rover last year, 36mpg is still good! ;)
