VW main dealerships anywhere in the country are as much use as a chocolate kettle.
Simple.

WHY IS THIS,AND WHAT MAKES YOU THE EXPERT.Chocolate toffee hammer is what we in the north would say and we also would have a saying for you but until we know your issue i will hold back and then i will still say it any way as i find your post offensive, and yes you have touched a nerve

Well....(and you 8tech) VW had my motor for 3 days on the 3rd day they carried out full wheel alignment and corrected the pressure in the tyres (so they say). But still the steering is heavy and the steering wheel vibrates in my hand. So in this case the garage carrying out the work did little to solve the problem.

Return to the dealer and ask for the master tech to road test it with you and discuss the issue and how the vehicle was before you hit the pot hole.Sound like you have bent the suspension and damaged your wheel but you need to give the dealer the full story and the speed at which your symptom occurs.

Ok. One of their top boys from the garage drove my car on the motorway and could not fault it. Just told me that the turbo was handy and he liked my golf. This is the problem. No other driver knew how the car felt before I hit this pot hole. The steering to the car should have no effect on the pressure in the tyres. If the tyre pressure is correct then the steering wheel should stay put in my hands. I think the problem is very serious. Someone from the garge said the car will never be the same again.

Did you get a copy of the 4 wheel alignement,if so is the camber out as this would indicate a bent suspension leg and tyre pressure are very important also was the fuel tank full as this is a requirement for wheel alignment check. Also the wheel alignment requires rechecking after 1000miles,and i would suggest you road test with the master tech and show him/her your vibrator

I wont forget to show him/her my vibrator. Cheers.
The tank was full (by chance). All what you said 8tech should have been picked up/checked by the garage. Instead i'm going on forums to get other's opinion.
The report states they checked the car for all possible problems.

Looks like you need to do a bit of shouting and then hit them with the vibrator on road test

I'll have it to hand.
Money has been spent on this motor and I drive away with the same problem I had before I went to the garage . madness . . . I'm stressed . . . . . where is that vibrator.

im confused... this just sounds like a bit of a run around.... just complain?
we've all had run-ins with garages, but you cant possibly judge each and every main dealer on the back of one experience, thats unfair in the biggest possible scale.
people like A8tech are on here, offering their expert advice for nothing, we run the risk of offending people like this and losing their support with such words.
go back, do some shouting and speak to the master tech. see what joy you get from him and report back to us to let us know how you get on ;)

Fair enough.
a8tech cooled down and helped me out in the end.
I'm sure he understands my frustration and is aware that like me that not all dealerships are like chocolate kettle's

I recently changed to VW from Citroen, following apalling customer service and lack of ability to fix problems from Citroen's dealers.
In my experience so far, I have to say that VW dealers appear to be just as poor as Citroen. I took my car to two VW dealers with an idling problem, neither of them can even notice the very obvious problem let alone diagnose it....however, the car is still under warranty, so I ain't got a chance of them sorting it out!
Interestingly, a recurring steering problem was why I gave up with Citroen. The steering was vague, heavy and vibrated at speed. They kept adjusting the tracking and wheel alignment and the car would be fine for 200-300 miles then the problem would return again...it never got solved permanently.

Sam. Thats the same sort of craic I'm talking about. The steering used to be great. One of the best cars i've driven. Then bang! I hit a pot hole at speed on the motorway . . .pull over because it I thought I had a flat, but nothing. Just a scuff.
PLEASE HELP!!!
