Hi, I am a new owner of a 2002 A6 2.5tdi Quattro and I've been browsing the forum for bit. I've seen the posts regarding the plenum chamber and problems with it filling with water.
I've seen the posts regarding removals the bungs and washing out the chamber (there is also a handy YouTube video showing this too). I haven't been able to determine whether I can simply remove the rubber bungs, wash it out and reassemble without replacing the bung, rather than having to remember to check / strip and drain it ....?

I prefer to remove them, as far away as possible.

These duck bill grommets were used to allow water out but not allow air in. This is to avoid injesting engine fumes, not just yours but in traffic the fumes from the cars exhaust infront, into the prlenum chamber whcich feed air to the pollen filter and into the car. There is also another issue, some owners that have removed these have experience a faint whistling noise at particular speeds.. There have also been instances of the holes being blocked even without the grommets in. I personally leave mine in and when I wash the car I attempt to flood the plenum chamber and check for two free flowing streams of water down either side of the gearbox and once a year visually check the chamber.
