Hi folks.

Just started hearing clicking from the air vents for the windscreen, found a thread on here but the two parties had the problem fixed under warranty but unfortunately I'm not in that position.

Anyone had his done and shed some light on the cost?

Thanks.

You could have a jammed flap motor.
Have the car scanned for faults

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I was thinking it was the flaps, i'll find someone to have it checked. Fingers crossed its and easy job but it sounds expensive!

Cheers.

Look in the vagcom section for a member in your area for a scan.
Sometimes they can be freed offering basic settings.

I'm sure there is a diagnostic place down the road from me, ill pop in there.
When you said it can be freed with basic setting do you mean mess about with the directional air flow settings?

Thanks.

You can try that.. In VCDS there is the option of re-setting the motors in basic settings. This will move the flaps from fully open to fully closed and this sets the motors

Hi folks, bringing this from the depths to update on the situation, so if it happens to anyone else they have an answer......maybe.

As you know there has been clicking coming from the middle of the dashboard. Have noticed that when the system is blowing cold the passenger side was blowing hot, as in roasting hot......

Plugged the car in and the first machine detected a fault and we tried the basic setting option with no luck. We then tried another machine which told us there was a fault and that it was the passengers one that had the problem. We also tried the basic settings but you guessed it no luck.

Phoned Audi who gave me some info saying that they are easy to get to through the glove box but........if its the drivers side its an 11 hour job......not good.

Ordered a new motor which went from £45 to £95 in a day and its still the same, so we think it could be the flap (blade) that is the problem.

Will keep you updated and hope this will be of some use to someone one day.

Cheers

Ok......Audi phoned to say they still can't find what's up with the car, they lost the note we gave saying about the replacement motor and the air con not coming on, so they said it will be next week before its ready.......maybe. Think this could be expensive :(

Been told that the motor we fitted was faulty so they have replaced it and linked the new part to the car, then phoned for us to collect the car.

Collected the car yesterday (wednesday) all the work done, felt very happy, paid the damage and all was looking good.
Got in the car turned it on and started to drive out......adjusted the temperature to suit my need and guess what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its not been fixed, absolutely raging, turned round and walked back in and caused hell!!!!. Service manager got involved who read through the file and said that the what we asked to get done was done as in link the new part to the car in which he later read, clicking noise reported and on the final completed note the engineer wrote.........clicking still remains, advise dash to come out..... Why give me the car back if its still not fixed.

Now the car has been with them for 2 days and they phoned today to say the bracket that holds the motor is broke which is causing it to jump whilst under strain (so the motor that has been purchased twice was actually fine) but the bracket part only costs £2......fair enough but..............They said they will need 4 hours to do the job because they have to take the dash out which is bull because we had that very same bracket out with the motor with only access from the glove box so now.........................My dad is going to Audi to replace the part himself!!!!! What is going on with Audi, seriously not impressed, very unprofessional.

Will keep this updated till we get a solution.

Ok people, the time has come to close this thread and hopefully be of some help to someone one day!

Problem:-
Clicking from behind dash and hot air blowing on passenger end when set to cold and vice-versa.

General info:-
Apparently there are 5 motors which control the hot, cold and i think direction to which vent. There are 3 in the middle
and 2 at each end, passenger and driver. The passenger and 3 in the middle are accessible from the glove box once it has been removed .

Fix:-
In my case it turned out to be a bracket that had broke, so when the motor was turning it should have met resistance to allow it to stop and set if you like but because the bracket was broke it opened the bracket up and caused the motor to jump thus causing the clicking noise.

Cost:-
Motor £95 (The motor was damaged because of the bracket)
Bracket £2
Audi charge £90 (For the first diagnostic)

Hope this helps one day.

I had a similar problem with mine start this morning. Hoped initially it was something sticking in the blower motor, because for me, the fault occurred as a non- stop clicking. Quickly traced the noise to the stepper motor on the left, next to the consul. Didn't find the broken bracket, as above. Opened up the cover to the motor and there was some rust between metal contacts. Cleaned them up and hey presto- it's gone.

Hope that's the end of it :)

If it came to it, you could have pulled the plug on the stepper motor. That's what I would have done if I couldn't cure it. I couldn't have lived with that either.

Thinking about it, I used to have the problem where the sunroof vents get blocked and flood through the centre consul. Must have been why the motor rusted up in the first place?
