Attempting to put the helplful advice from my previous questions to good use in regards emissions , a minor problem has popped up. The battery was flat so I took it out and gave it a full charge, Popped it back in, all the lights on the dashboard came on but engine would not turn over. The radio would not light up either, which I'm assuming is some sort of code issue. If your outside the car, you can hear a clicking from the starter motor, but there is no sign of it turning. What I am really asking is there some sort of immobiliser issue going on since the battery was disconnected? My friend doesn't think so as the lights in the door flash and he said this was a sign the immobilser was off. I will have some daylight free time next Sunday so I will try a different battery that I know works correctly. As the current battery is sporting a Halford's logo that wouldn't be too far away from appearing in Heartbeat and all though everything (bar the radio) lights up, the wiper speed was a tad slow. I'm long winded as usual but I'm just checking that you don't need to reset something if the battery is disconnected. as I noticed in the handbook you have to reset something for the electric windows to work again The dashboard is also flashing inspect on and off, which may be something to do with this or the emission. My friend can't remember if that was there before, so who knows? thanks in advance

Sounds like a duff battery, especially as you're saying it's ripe for an appearance in Heartbeat. When the car is immobilised, the starter will still turn the engine. It is likely you'll need the code for the radio though.

Hi.
The symptom you are describing, the clicking noise coming from the starter motor
Sounds like the solinoid needs replacing.
I had this issue on my previous golf 3.
You would turn the key and get a clicking noise but she wouldn't start.
Got the solinoid replaced for £50 and it cured the problem.
Any autospark can sort this out for you.
If you are needing the car, she can be started on a bump.
Good luck.
