One tail light is much dimmer than the orther?

Noticed this problem a few days ago. The left hand tail light (the section on the bootlid) is much dimmer than the right hand side. The two bulbs are lit but they are just very very faint. So at night there is hardly any light coming from it at all.

Brake light is working fine and the fog light works ok and seems bright enough.

Driver info panel says intermitantly says there is fault with the tail light.

Anyone come accross this before?

when you do, you might find that the glass of the dimmer bulb is silver instead of clear - this is a thin coating of metal from the filament being deposited over the glass.

I have known bulbs blow and then the fillament reweld itself this makes the bulb black so its dimmer. If they are twin bulbs they could be the wrong way round.
