hi i have a audi a4 1997 b5 model .
when starting vehicle as normal it brings a car with a key light/
imobiliser light i no it is...
after vehicle starts then cuts out after 1-2 seconds ...
i have been told to try other keys to make sure chip in the key has not failed but still does not work due to trying all 3 keys including maaster key
but when battery is disconnected for approx 25- 30 secs and then connect battery again it will start. as soon as the ignition is turnt of and then on again it wont start again im just wondering the next best thing to do

also have been told i need to replace the ignition barrel key reader witch comes complete with barrel and new key. this is around 70 pounds but dont wish to spend if its not going to cure this...

thanks josh

I'm sorry I can't really help but there is a thread on here somewhere about the imobiliser problem, as its quite a common problem, mine seems to play up occasionaly then it will be ok for about 3 months. I think you can get away without using a new barrel or key, as the key has to read the key reader, so I think all you have to do is move the key reader that bit closer to the key
I think I read somewhere that it can be repaired using a cable tie.
My car has different keys for the doors and ignition which normally is a tell tale sign that its been in for the repair sometime.
