Oil Pump Woes

So the oil pump failed on my car, got it straight to my local indy garage and they have diagnosed Oil Pump & Turbo need replacement - £2,500 Ouch!

Only problem is that no one can get hold of the Pump/Balance Shaft unit as they are on back order from Germany since September - WHAT?!?! :aargh4:

Not really sure what to do now, I want (NEED) my car back, but can't get it fixed - what do I do?

Find a 2nd hand engine with Pump & Turbo already attached is one option but seems excessive when there was nothing else wrong with my engine before this. :zx11:

Sorry to hear about your troubles!

Can i ask what year your passat is, i mean the Model Year (tenth digit of your VIN), not the reg plate year.

Apparently (so i hear), cars up to mid 2006 have a chain driven oil pump, and later models have a gear-driven pump which is considered more reliable.
