A4 Quattro 3.0 Avant B8 Towing

Hi,

I read a thread on here relating to overheating issues with the above car when towing and that upgrades need to be carried out for extra cooling.

Does anyone have experience towing without these upgrades, is it a real problem.

I am very keen to buy the above car but now have my concerns. How do I find out the engine build date so I can try to find a post 2008 week 22 which does not suffer these problems. is it as simple as the reg plate I.e. all 58 plates are ok, I am guessing this is not the case...

Before I buy the car I would need to find out the engine build date.

Any help is very much appreciated

It's not very easy to work out. The old brochures showed different prices depending on whether the stock car had tow bar preparation but even that wasn't conclusive.

I don't currently have a tow bat but I contacted Audi UK to find out about my car when I was waiting to take delivery. It took them a while but I eventually found out my 59 plate MY2010 has the prep. Other cars of similar age don't appear to though.

i think you need to look for cars with the smaller wing mirrors as i believe these all have towbar prep

Plan is to try and find out if they have tow bar prep then. But sounds tricky. Maybe the mirrors will be a good starting point. Do you know what the size of the smaller versus standard mirrors is?

Small mirrors came in in mid/late 2009 with the MY2010 cars.

In the MY2010 changes document that I've got it says the below but I think it changed again shortly afterwards :

"Tow bar preparation (allows easier retro-fitmentof accessory tow bar)"

small wing mirrors are similar to ones on the A3 - the large ones look like mickey mouse ears
