HI folks,

I'd like to replicate the front red ambient light in the back above the rear seat as well.
Has anyone done this and any pointers?

Cheers,

You'll need to tap into the dash illumination supply to power them - the most accessible point as far as I know is at the back of the cigarette lighter. You can then run the cable under the carpet in the passenger footwell, and then under the trim & carpet to the back of the car which will get you to the back of the back seat or into the boot; I'd guess that you would then go up the side of the seat back to the parcel shelf, then find a way up the rear pillar to get to the head lining.

Where you would mount the LED's, I have no idea, nor can I think of what you are going to use as the ones I've used for the footwells would be far too bright for ambient lighting.

Cheers FC,

I brought the W8 light and fitted that in my old B5 and wired that up in a similar way to what you described. I'm sure I've seen a VW group car which has ambient lights in the rear and I was thinking I might be able to knock something together if I could get my hands on a unit.

The reason I want to do this was because we were giving my sister in law and little neice a lift home the other night and we couldn't see her in the dark without putting the rear interior light on which woke her up and we all thought it would be a good idea if we could have the red ambient lights in the back as well as the front. So any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards,

Scottie.

What about a Phaeton? It may have them.
