For the past few days I have noticed this, blue smoke coming back from the exhaust. I didn't took any notice of it, but now I feel something is wrong. When the car is slightly warmed up there's no blue smoke, it disappears, only happens when engine is cold.*

I assume it's either turbo related problem or something major :(*

Bare in mind the car was parked up in the garage for 2 months, been driving the car for a week now.*

Any ideas???

I think blue smoke on startup means burning oil Zeb :(

Great :(

What do I need to do, and would it cost an arm and a leg to sort this problem out?

If there's no smoke when it's warmed-up I shouldn't worry too much. Is it actually dropping on the dipstick - if you can read the B thing that is.

Let it idle for a couple of minutes and then blip the throttle and see if it smokes.

Finally, are you sure it's oil smoke?

Hhhmmmm....okay. Everything seems fine, so does the dipstick. I will look into this tomorrow morning to exactly identify the smoke. Im not too sure if it's an oil smoke, a patch of blue smoke came up, when I started her up.I did rev the engine and it coughed out the normal black smoke.

I hope it's nothing major, as I am out of pocket :(

Would 10K boost do the trick if it's turbo related smoke?

Unless the engine fires when the first piston that moves goes to compression (rarely, and if you hear the engine turning on the starter it hasn't) you'll get some incompletely ignited fuel, which will come out of the exhaust grey/blue, which is different to the black smoke, think soot, which results from a 'rich' mixture, putting your foot to the floor when the engine is hot and not getting enough air in the mix to burn it properly. Very noticeable with a blocked air filter.

Blocked air filter....I will look into that and find out. It was giving out grey/blue smoke on start up, I started her up this morning and there was no blue smoke. I will give it a few more days and see if the smoke reappears. Hopefully not.

It does give out more black smoke since it's been chipped, don't know if this is a serious problem or the egr needs a good clean.

The car was on for sale but not anymore, as there isn't any good german diesel with the right spec for sale. Might get the Volvo S60 2.4 D5 R line or sport in the summer.

A chipped car chucks out more smoke when you boot it. I just wondered if the two were connected.

If that's the case, it doesn't say much for the 'chipper'. Black smoke = poor combustion = wasted fuel.

With the chip I'm getting better mpg and it's not drinking too much fuel.
