Hey folks..

Whenever I open the boot lid, it flips up quite viciously - are they all like this or should it have some kind of 'dampening' mechanism?

Not a real problem, just doesnt seem normal!

Mine is like this as well, I believe all early ones are. I think they revised it for later models. But it is normal for older models

Albion,
This has been discussed before, perhaps search the forum for the subject as I am sure that there was a solution or adjustment for it. Have to say that my 58 from new has never been a problem, it opens very slowly and under control which is what I would expect for a car such as this.
Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Thanks guys,

Yeh should really check the forums first :s

Mine's an 08 - maybe they were revised at 58?

Strange!

Our 08 A4 suffered from same and despite attempts by the dealer to better balance the boot, never lost he ability to launch satellites into orbit on opening.

4 years on, it has had no ill effect on the mechanism's durability and we ended up living with it. Definitely seemed to improve circa 58 reg.
