Hi there,
Recently joined the ranks with a 2005 A6 Sline Quattro, so far very happy, car is brilliant.
Have some questions that I can't get an answer to in the search.
Do people recommend 4 wheel alignment periodically?
Car drives well with no steering or associated issues, although the front tyres make a noise when turning in a car park (smooth surface). Car is fitted with winter tyres so they are slightly noisier. No uneven tyre wear.
The MMI isn't running the latest software, but I am using a 2011 nav dvd. I notice that if I'm using the nav and then use the bluetooth, the radio/cd volume goes right up every time it wants to make a nav announcement. Is this a known fix with later MMI software?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi,
Afraid I cant answer the MMI query, i don't tend to use mine as it doesn't support full UK postcodes...i have a Tomtom for that.
as to the tyres squealing, this is completely normal on a smooth surface, especially in car parks....mine does it even at low speeds when in a multi-story! If there are no other issues then don't worry.

1. Yes I do, every time I get a tyre changed I get mine done by Audi. Keeps the tyres inline. It may cost a bit but makes the tyres last longer. I've just touched 20k on Michelin tyres.
Compared to when I put Goodyear tyres on and I didn't get them aligned, they only lasted 12k with the same style of driving.
As you have an sline, you will have 18 or 19 inch tyres and because both are so wide, the squealing increases on some surfaces. Even my a3 with 17inch tyres does this.
2. If you go into one of the submenus you can change the level of spoken cues. I will get the exact menu when wife comes home.
Mmi is easily updated, a recent thread was completed by m3compact doing this, a8 tech also posted a video.

Re number 2 - watch my video here to adjust the spoken nav cues and other volume settings.

Chris, I'm intrigued by this recommendation. Were your Goodyears showing signs of uneven tyre wear, or was the car pulling to one side or tramlining?
If not, what made you think that the wheels needed aligning?
Michelins are famed for their longevity and are priced accordingly. All things being equal, I would expect expect them to last much longer than the Goodyears in any event.

I'd have to agree with the previous post, when switching between the softer compound of Goodyear and the harder compound of Michelin, I noticed similar difference in miles.

Ever since I had the car, it always pulled very slightly. The car came with Continential tyres (I think) and it had 33k on it.
I didnt take much notice to the slight pull as I was coming from a much smaller car, a Mk2 Mondeo and thought it was just me getting use to the bigger car.
I changed the tyres to the Goodyears and I didnt think the car would need lined as it was only a year old at the time.
It was only then when the tyres needed changed again I noticed it did need lined. The nsf tyre wore badly in the inside edge and had less tread than the osf.
I have the printout somewhere from Audi when the first alignment was done and it shows how out the tyres actually were.
I will try and find this.

This is true, I paid £1k for a set of PS2's (they were actually on offer at the time!) and the mileage certainly is worth paying that bit extra.

Thanks guys,
Chris, much appreciated, video etc looks good. I will double check this. I have the feeling that the device order gets mixed up with the combo of nav and bluetooth. All is fine until you get the combo of a phone call and the nav, then the radio volume gets put to max everytime the nav speaks. I will check it all over again.

No problem, the latest mmi update is actually a bug fix and I think there is a Bluetooth fix too.
If a8tech reads this thread, he'll be able to tell you more about bug fixes.
