Afternoon all,
I'd appreciate some advice on what to do - my 2001 B5 audi A4 1.9tdi lost power on the motorway sliproad last night and would not restart.
The AA recovered us after trying to get it going after fault diagnosis - cam postion sensor error was showing up.
Local garage today are saying they are sure some teeth have come off the cambelt and hence the sensor fault.
They are waiting for my instruction as to what to do - car has done 170000 and cambelt changed at 120000 - was due soon but was within recommended mileage and dates. Car was fully serviced and recently had all shocks replaced and suspension sorted - passed last mot with no advisories.
The garage are suggesting options of scrapping the car, paying for the belt to be replaced and seeing if the engine works, changing the engine or potentially selling it to one of the mechanics for him to take a risk on replacing the belt.
What would members do? Is there likely to have been engine damage when the cambelt failed? - I was doing about 40mph when it happened if this is relevant
A friend has suggested talking to my insurance - is this a good idea?
If I was to sell it to the mechanic - what is a reasonable price?
