You could do it yourself if you are confident taking the airbag and steering wheel off.
You would need to post a vcds scan to know your steering wheel ecu is compatible. Do you have mfsw?

Okay, my A3 is March 2009 and it does have the correct ecu. But this may mean nothing in terms of parts.
If one of the sparks read this, they may ask for your vin to find the correct part for your car by the chassis number.
Have a read at my thread http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?127741-2009-A3-Cruise-Control-Parts-required

I had this done to my 2004 A3, cost me £300. Audi told me I could not have it done because I didn't have the Drivers Information System but that's a load of rubbish, its just the stalk that sits under your indicator lever and does not need the upgraded ECU or DIS...

It depends if you have correct steering column control unit though.
Thats why I asked the OP for a scan to see if the car had the correct one.
