Hi guys

Another one of those "STRANGE" issue here. Anyways last couple of days the weather has been pretty great with the gale force winds and rain. So going to work in the morning i had the wipers on auto. For a little bit of drizzle they were going mental and if that wasn't annoying enough the driver side wiper started to touch the windscreen pillar instead of stopping a couple of inches away from the pillar. This has happened two days in a row. It is intermettent as it did that a few times and when i changed the wiper speed it went away on both days. Anyone else had issues of this sort. I have booked it in with the dealers as i didnt want any paint work damage on the windscreen pillar due to constant hitting of the wiper.

Although i dont have much hope as the problem is intermittent and doubt it if audi would bother to look at it as thee tend to look at a fully developed fault normally.

mine does it too...a rese0t of the wiper stalk seems to make it go away. It is not irritating enough to me to want to do something about it though, i will just live with it happening now and again.

This effects my car too and I just do what Josh suggests and reset the stalk.

Re the wipers hitting the bodywork, they may just need aligned from the spindle as over time this can loosen. There is a thread on here where A8 tells how to fix.

Another thing to watch out for, if your wipers ever sweep when you unlock the car from the key, your keyfob battery is low.

People didn't believe me and thought I was going nuts until someone else had the same problem ;)

How do you rest the wiper stalk?

Push it right down to the bottom to the 'off' position.

will give it a go to see if it works but the issue is only when it is one the first speed setting, on the second setting it doesnt hit the frame at all which is why i found it weird.

Frame hitting could be down to the wrong size wipers. Or that the left and rights may have been put on the wrong way. Although the modern vw/Audis have the same fittings, the lengths of the wipers are all different.

Should be no reason why the wipers hit the frame at any speed.

couldnt be wrong size as in the past 4 months it has only happened in the last two times i had needed the wipers.

OK so an update on this issue I posted a while ago. I had the Audi comprehensive warranty so I thought I ll see if it is worth the money. Took the car to Bradford Dealers and it was booked in. Got me a choice of Audi A1 or a 2011 Audi A5 sportback 2.0tfsi as a courtesy car. Wanna hazard a guess which one I went for?

Anyways..turned out the fault wasnt mechanical as i would have thought but it was actually the rain sensor that needed replacing and it was covered under the warranty. Car was in overnight and returned with the sensor replaced, washed vaccumed, so cant complain. I loved driving the A5, compared to the 2.0tdi performance. That thing was quick and I enjoyed driving it so much that the next day I realised I had gone through about 25litres of petrol.

Just one observation on A5 though, the S line leather seats are way too uncomfortable and hard for a long journey man. Overall quite pleased with the result so far.
