Took my Mk3.5 Cab Golf for an MOT before Xmas. The brakes were pulling towards one side and the garage advised me to get it sorted before the MOT. (70/30 on the rolling road). There was bad wear in one set of pads.
They replaced the front brake pipes saying they often fail causing these symptoms, replaced the brake fluid and of course, the front pads. When the pads were out they checked the callipers and they were not seized.
They put it all back together and it still pulls. They suggested that it could be an ABS pump/controller failure.
On the way home I checked the tyre pressure just to make sure it wasn't that obivious!
Now, I have VAG.com, so I went off to check for ABS fault codes, but the car was clear. I also checked the speed reading coming from each ABS wheel sensor and they all read the same. I also manually ran the ABS pump and it seems okay.
I also removed the ABS pump/controller fuse (Okay not recommended but was trying to prove a point!) ABS light came on and fault was recorded.
Surely if the ABS pump or controller is faulty disconnecting them altogether should stop the problem. After a very careful test drive the car was still pulling.
So the questions are....
Do you think it could still be the ABS pump/Controller unit?
Do you need to recode the Pump/Controller unit if it is exactly the same part number on the new parts?
Finally, do you have any other suggestions?
Worst possible outcome, pay for parts and labour on the ABS pump and it still pulls!
Thanks!
