Evening all,
I have a friend with a 2000 mk4 1.8 GTI which has had an engine replacement due to the family not checking the oil level regularly enough....
Anyway, it has been back on the road for a couple of months an he mentioned to me how abysmal his MPG was. The first thing I asked him was what did the temperature dial on the dash say - and his response was it was stuck mainly on 0 degrees.
Today, I had a look at his old coolant sensor which is green. He also mentioned that his temp reading is mainly on 0 and doesn't dance about like I hear other people's do.
This has me slightly stumped. I was under the impression that the old sensors were black newer sensors were green? I also thought that a symptom of a failed sensor was that the readings vary during the journey.
Is this problem definately the green sensor or could it be the thermostat/other issue??
