I have 2 keys for my 2008 passat.
One stopped working last night, so I changed the battery in each key but still no change.

It's almost as if the car has forgotten the key. It works to start the car, so the immobiliser code must still work, but the transmitting unlock/lock code doesn't have any effect on the car.

I do have VCDS and a lead, so could reprogram but have only found old guides that don't relate to the B6 passat.

Thoughts?
Can cars "forget" keys?

Needs to be reprogrammed, try google, it might be same as b5 or it could be done manualy

Maybe someone smarter than me will offer a VCDS solution, in which case that's what to go for.

In the meantime, I think that your handbook includes information on how to renew the synchronisation between keys and car, so it might be worth a look there. When I changed my batteries, the advice was to be super quick, otherwise the pairing is lost.

Later info.....

yes, it's on page 42 of booklet 3.1. You need to use the plastic spare key inside the fob. If you don't have a handbook, come back here and I'll type out the full instructions for you.
