which year did audi bring in the DPF on their A3's?

im looking at 06 onwards a3 automatic diesels, but will it have a DPF fitted? i do many short journeys so dont want to have to deal with expensive filters getting clogged etc.

got my eye on 2 cars, a low mileage 06 or a high mileage 08plate

thanks

1.9tdi 0r 2.0tdi.

Obviously the newer the car the more chance of DPF being fitted to the car

If you want to avoid having a DPF fitted to the car and you're only doing short journeys, surely the logical choice would be a Petrol?

i do a couple long journeys a month too (40-50miles). i just like the idea of having 10-15+more mpg by having a diesel, and used prices between petrols and diesels have little difference

Long term though, I fear that extra MPG will be outweighed with maintenance and (for instance) DPF replacements.

a petrol can be economical on a motorway depending on how it's driven, quicker to warm up on short(er) trips and in all honesty, over a distance of 40>50 miles, I doubt you'd see much difference in fuel usage.

Wikipedia is a useful source of info. The entry for the A3 includes some info on DPF fitment to different engine codes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_a3

I tend to agree with Eshrules on petrol vs diesel though.

you could just remove DPF & have the light mapped out if you do end up getting a DPF equipped car

bearing in mind of course, future MOT legislation ;)
