View Full Version : Sudden idle problem

Hi

This morning I noticed the car was idling strange. It seemed to be too low causing the vibration coming from the engine as if it was coming to stall. It hasn't stalled yet and seems to run fine once you get going. I've connected it to my laptop and the idle speed is showing as 704rpm. I'm guessing this is too low. The engine warning light has also come on the dash board.

Where do you guys suggest I go from here? If I should get the error codes checked does anyone know someone I can meet up with around the Dorset/Hampshire area?

Thx
Richard

then that would be the first port of call check for unmetered air e.g a leaking vacuum hose and perhaps a fault code read might help show what's wrong

Okay thanks.

Does anyone else out there knows someone with VAG-COM around the Dorset Hampshire area that I could hook up?

order one of these or similar:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-USB-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-409-1-OBD2-II-LEAD-VAG-COM-/330399696070?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4ced5b44c6

it'll be the cheapest code reader y'll ever buy. a great introduction to diagnostics too.

Anything like that for a 2009 a6 CR?

yeah, try this:

<link removed>

it's probably another knock off, but it will read the codes for you. like the other one i mentioned - you will have to register it to get full functionality - but it's a cheap 'in' for diagnostics. Ross Tech freely issue VCDS lite (the new VAGCOM) program to work with most obd cables.
gotta be worth a punt - even if it's just to read the codes at short notice to post up on this forum. and if you get on with it, you may even invest in the full blown original cable (i think they are getting cheaper, currently closer to £250 now)

let me know how you get on!

Link removed because its advertising pirated VCDS and copied hardware. I have had confirmation from Stuart that the link further up the page is allowed as it uses the older (very old) software.

Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean any ill, i just did a quick ebay search and pulled the first one off that i thought would help.

VCDS is free to download to all at any time. I used to use VAGCOM 311 (reeeaaally old), but i have a proper cable and up to date software now. I probably wouldn't have got a new cable if i hadn't been able the 'sample the wares' first.

Appols again.

Steve.

If you need a scan, you're welcome to pop over the border into Staffordshire and I will do it for you for the princely sum of £0.00 :)
