I've just fitted an rns-e in my b6, it had a single din concert with the old bns4.0 I think it was called (navigation cd changer in boot)which didn't work

Everything on the rns-e works fine just 2 small niggles, the steering wheel controls only work with the ignition on, is this normal? Also I am not getting the turn by turn on the DIS (the full colour one) considering it already has (had) the old DNS GPS are there any changes to be made via vagcom, and if so, which ones.?

thanks

Yes you need to code the car with VAGCOM.

You need to check the coding of the RNSE itself, the steering wheel, and the instruments. Use the coding helper built into VAGCOM to work out the codings you need.

Do you have bluetooth as well? If so, that needs coding to tell it that Navigation is installed.

This is what I am unsure about, if the car already had gps (albeit not working and a different type) is the coding already in there, or do you tell it it's a different type of gps

The coding isn't the same. You need a scan and recode with VCDS/VAGCOM.

Once the coding is correct, then you can start to troubleshoot any further issues you might still have. It's guesswork until the coding is sorted.
