Last Monday I had the "steering lock fault" message appeared, but the car started no problem so I thought I'd ignore the problem a while . Then on Thursday another message appeared on the dash " emissions garage" . Booked it in with the local vw garage on Friday , who phoned me later that day and confirmed what I thought ,steering lock module and fuel temp sensor were duff . Gave them the go ahead but had to wait until today to pick up the car. Turned up at 11.a.m ,paid the £347 bill ( reasonable I thought) .Got into the car inserted key ,pushed and apart from the steering lock light on the dash ,nothing at all . Service guy came out and suggested flat battery , tried booster pack then jump starting .Technician came and had a look ,stripped all the trim around the steering wheel looking for loose connections , a hour later i was asked if I could leave the car with them. Had a phone call at 3.p.m. saying that they were bit stumped. They think the immobiliser has somehow activated but their real problem was that they couldn't get the computer to recognise the car. Can but only wait now .
Any ideas and will I be liable for costs ( after all the car drove to the garage fine ,it's since they played with it the problems occured )

None, you've paid for them to fix it, they are obliged to sort it out foc, if it's still an issue it's probably because the new lock isn't recognising the old key.

Get them to try new batteries in the fob as well.

Phoned the garage for an update Tuesday afternoon , they told me that their master technician had looked at the problem but was also lost for ideas and has now filed a report to vw central asking for support . I asked about cost and was told not to worry ,that it would be taken care of :D . I was going to try and get the dealer to change the injectors while it's in , but they have been so fair I'll leave it for now and go the vw customer services route another time.
