Newbie needs help 3.0 V6 Cabriolet

My ESP light has recently started to come on after ten minutes of driving, if I switch the car off it re-sets but then comes back on. I’m not too sure if this is a coincidence but I have just put a new set of genuine Audi alloys and tyres on the car. These are the same size tyres as the ones that came off I believe.
I have tried the following:-

• Replaced the brake light sensor
• Replaced the ESP switch
• Checked the tyre pressure (32 psi)

The traction control is definitely switched off when the light comes on and is not just a fault with the light. I have tested it and the wheels spin/skid when the light has false fired.

I’m kind of thinking that the tyres/wheels need aligning or balancing or a sensor needs replacing?

If anyone has had experience of a similar issue then please let me know as its annoying the hell out of me!

I’m based in Pontefract West Yorkshire and so if anyone can offer me any help it would be great. A VAG or similar diagnostic recommendation would be much appreciated if thats whats needed?

Many thanks,
Chris.

Could be the ABS / Wheel sensor that requires a clean. That's always worth a try - plus it's free.

Ah, not sure on that. I would assume at least two (one on each front wheel - not sure on the rears)

Is your steering wheel straight ? Mine was off centre and caused the light to come on. There is an optical sensor on the wheel and if it is off centre it puts the light on. If the sensor fails or needs calibrated then the light will come on also.

I am not too sure how to check without getting it hooked up to something to check the alignment?

I can only assume it was something i did when I changed the alloys or possibly when I cleaned under the wheel arches? They are genuine Audi and the same size.

I phoned Audi today and they wanted £130 plus just to diagnose!

Be nice to get someone in the know close to me (Pontefract West Yorkshire) with Vag.

You may have dislodged an abs sensor. You need VAG com or a similar diagnostic tool to check them. You need to drive the car slowly whilst monitoring the wheel sensors. Usually one will show up with an obviously different reading than the others. The computer will identify which one otherwise its hit and miss as to whether you find the one that is faulty.

Thanks for all the help but Im still scratching my head!

I have replaced the brake light switch and the dash esp switch myself, took the car into IVC at Leeds and they diagnosed a faulty temp sensor. I had the temp sensor changed and all seemed well until 40 mins later in the journey and the esp light came on again? They have offered to scan it for me again but its a bit of a trek from where I live?

Faulty MAF sensor or any other suggestions would be appreciated!
