Adding DRLs in foglight spot

I have a Passat B6 'S' (ie no fog lights in front grille)

Thinking of getting aftermarket grilles with fog light opening and installing these.

Just wondering:

1. Has anyone purchase the many non-OEM grilles such as from ebay - is there much difference between these and the OEM ones? (besides cheaper price)

2. These foglights are 7cm wide. Will they fit into the standard fog recess?

3. Anyone care to share their experience of installing DRLs in the fog light position and wiring in?

4. Will this be road legal?

With regards to #4 - the link you provided claims they are road legal. I doubt they'd be able to make such a claim if they weren't.

I have LED DRL's in the fog lamps matey, looks very cool, I put a relay in so when you turn on the headlights the DRL's go out, unless you select front fog on the switch, then they would come on... if you get me!!

How did you do it and where did you get the DRLs that go into the fog lights from?

Wiring scheme?

I click on your ebay link but they were just generic fog lights.

...and am trawling forums to find out how best to wire them in with buying extra bits n bobs.
I know that there's a TFL pin on the back of the headlight switch (TFL is an acronym for DRL in German) - so is there a corresponding wire on the loom that plugs in to the back of the switch? If so, does it go to a relay? If so is there a wire from the relay going anywhere near the front lights?
I've also heard that relay 173 is the DRL relay/
