diesel smell.

can anyone help. i have a passat 130 tiptronic 03 and it smells quite badly of diesel on tickover.:(

hi it smells of diesel out side the car running. it never used to just got worse.

Can you tell if it is coming out of the exhaust and smelling sort of burnt or is it raw unburnt and coming from around the middle of the car on the drivers side?

It smells like burnt fuel from the exhaust, but you can also smell it around the middle!

On cold mornings? Auxiliary heater (webasto) kicking in? They smell like this and produce smoke from the wheel arches

Perhaps it has faulty glows plugs and is not burning the fuel fully when cold or a faulty coolant temperature sender and it is too rich. I suggest you start with a fault code read.
