I'm going to upgrade my air filter and wanted to know the best one to get.

Im looking at Pipercross ones for my car. (2001, B6,1.8T, 150BHP), I am going to be getting the car remapped in the not too distant future so should I get the panel filter for the 190BHP model (as this is close to what the remap should get me)or get the one for the 150BHP as its probably the same filter anyway!!!!

Just looked on the pipercross website, the filter is the same throughout the range on all the 1.8T's.

So all I need to know know is, what is the best filter for my Car?

Your not going to increase performance with a panel filter mate, the only reason i bought one is so i dont have to buy a paper one every 12 months at £15 a pop. Be careful as the ones that use oil on them will nacker your MAF.

If your wanting to increase airflow buy an enclosed filter with an airfeed to run to the front, with as little bends as possible, that way the filters shielded from heat soak a bit, and gets cold air from the front of the car, just be careful where you put the feed, as some areas have no airflow through them while the cars moving. But again be careful you dont buy one thats covered in oil.

If im honest i think the OEM setup on the A4 is quite good, especially on the diesels.

With a turbo motor unless your really pulling some high PSI figures then a 'performance' air filter is not going to make much difference at all.
Keep it standard if i was you, just change it twice as regular.

I know it's a bit dull but the other guys are right.. I put a K&N panel filter on my 3.0 B7 TDI and it didn't really make a performance difference (apart from making the lovely V6 engine tone & turbo a bit more noticible which I liked)!

I do belive they do make more of a difference on a petrol engines but unless you're upgrading your turbo to a bigger one.. just stick with the stock panel filter. Imagine this.. the S4 V8 uses the same airbox.. if it can supply enough for a 4.2 producing 300+BHP, it's going to be fine for your 1.8T!

Aftermarket filters have bigger "pores" to allow more air through but then rely on a coating of oil to make as sticky surface which helps to catch fine particles. Even a lightly oiled filters will deposit traces of oil on your MAF which will eventually seriously ROB you of power and responsiveness!

I'm not too fussed about any performance gains, I just like the deeper tone you get with an updated filter.

I had a 2003 Mini Cooper S a few years back, I done some serious mod work to it (almost 240BHP) I fitted a K&N Induction kit and it made such a great change to the sound of the supercharger it was fantastic

Does the pipercross and k&n panel filters come pre oiled?
