Oil Pump Failure, bottom end damage, 2001 A4 2.0 petrol

Hi guys,

My A4 has just died due to an oil pump failure or so i've been told, the garage have told me that the bottom end has gone. They are advising a recon engine which i'm not sure is the only option, i'm thinking maybe an engine rebuild or a cheaper alternative, hopefully you guys can advise? I don't want to scrap the car as its been reliable for the 7 years i've had it and its always been well looked after so please can you advise what the best course of action will be and also if any of you are in South east Essex and can do the required work?,

That is an unusual failure. The problem with a rebuild is that it can easily cost more than an exchange unit but it would be easier if the rebuild could be done in situ. If it is pulled out for a rebuild I doubt a garage could rebuild it for less than a professional reconditioning company could do it.
