After many VW's in recent years i am back after 6 months in a Mondeo TDCI, we have a family business buying, selling and repairing (inc MOT) motor cars. When i bring a nice VW in part exchange i buy it and smoke it for 6 months or so.

I am now in a 2006/56 B6 Passat 2.0 TDI SE Saloon 140bhp (chipped to 170bhp by previous owner), metallic Shadow blue, 85k miles with full franchise history (cambelt done in 2009). The car also shows 2 recall stamps in the book, one of which was probably a flywheel/clutch affair. We have a good customer who buys a Passat from us every 12-18 months, we sold him this car and he has just traded it back in for a '57 plate Sport with low miles. The car has been serviced by us to death by the previous keeper and has just had new brakes all round and tyres. It came in on a low loader 2 weeks ago as a non starter, after sorting the dreaded fuel injector problem with new injectors it is now sorted. Interestingly enough we ordered 4 new injectors from VW to fix the car, after fitting them it was still no better. We were seriously running out of ideas until we realised that 2 of the brand new genuine VW injectors were faulty.

At the moment i am really enjoying the car and cannot fault the drive at all, i have driven many B6 2.0 TDi's but never lived with one. The car pulls like a train with the 170bhp chip, this makes 1st and 2nd a bit too short and frantic however, 3rd gear is where its at.

Its good to be back in my own VW again.

Enjoy the car the remap does all the tricks otherwise 140 not enough for the body, a car of this size needs the extra power.Another happy owner VW :D

Mind you don't wreck the oil pump, have a look at the chassis number, if it's under 50k it's a bad one and likely to fail, and it's right on the miles they normally go at as well, some folks only saw 35k before they got the lights and the bill.

I can point at 99% of the vehicles i see on the UK's roads and tell someone what major problem is likely to occur to that car at some point, head gasket, timing chain stretching, turbo going, flywheel etc, etc. I just can't allow myself to dwell on it as i would not buy any cars to sell, all you can do is improve your chances. What i would say is that VW has this image of complete reliability to a lot of punters, from my experience buying and selling 500+ cars a year they are no more reliable than a Ford or Vauxhall. Every now and then an incident such as the failing injectors happens and it steps up a notch. The more cars i sell, the more problems we have with cars that are for sale or cars we have just sold, it is almost a sign of success!
