Hi all.

I got a B8 3 weeks ago. The back driver side passanger door wont open. It will open from the inside alright but not from the outside. I have pressed the unlock button on the keyfob many time and still wont unlock. I have tried pressing the unlock button on the drivers door and still nothing.

Anybody know whats up with it? Just dont want to go back to the place were i got it just to be shown so silly little button or something that i missed.

Thanks guys.

If it was the other way round I'd say you've got the child lock on but that isn't the case.

It might be that you've got 'single click driver door' set in the MMI. Go into the settings and check that you've got the remote set to unlock all 4 doors and not just the driver door.

You don't specifically say but I guess the other 2 doors open alright?

My first guess would be "single click".

It could be a fault or potentially someones activated the lock manually. The feature is there in case the central locking fails. It's in the manual but basically there's a cap on the doors (just above the lock mechanism) and you can insert your key to lock it. It then will only open from the inside.

Cheers lads.

The mmi is set to open 4 doors, so one click on the fob opens all doors and all the other doors open fine.

Ill have a look at that think your talking about Scotty.

Sorry to rehash an old thread, but did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I have just recently started experiencing this problem this week. I do have the single click on, but I am pressing the unlocking button over and over again and still nothing!

Think I have solved it!

I found this thread: http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?81759-Tdi-sport-drivers-door-won-t-open-from-outside/page2

and tried the instructions, and it is working again! some people have said it can go back to not working, so we will just have to see.

Hi all. Unfortunately I'm a new one here so be gentle!
I have recently privately bought an Audi b8 a4 and while looking around it didn't notice any problems, until the next day when I had got it home, unlocked it to let the family in and the rear door wouldn't open just as DRUNLOCK explained. After a couple of hours trying the different cures that people have said, I gave up and decided to take the door apart. My thinking was "I can't really break it any more than it already is and if the lock needs replacing then I have nothing to lose. SO.......
I watched a YouTube video on how to take the door card off (unfortunately there are no videos curing this problem) and went about the dismantle process. Once the card was loose, I detached the cable to the inside handle and the cable to the little tweeter speaker bit DID NOT detach the electric window cable because I did this on a car I had a while ago and then had nothing but problems with the electric window not closing properly. Ok, so now the door card is off.
You will now see a few wires clipped to the card so as to stop them rattling so pull them out from their clips and it will allow enough cable from the electric window motor to let the door card sit on the floor without you disconnecting it.
Level with the lock mech is a rather large rubber bung that can be prized out to allow access to the inside of the door, take that off. Next I undid the two torx screws that hold the lock in place and then fed the lock back through the service hole where the large rubber bung was. I didn't detach any more cables at all.
Now, my thinking was that inside the lock somewhere is a lever of some sort that moves when the door is unlocked and maybe for whatever reason it is jamming, which would explain why once unlocked the door can be opened from the inside and not the out because if you lock a car door, all you need to do is pull the inside handle and it opens..... ok.....
So I've pulled the lock back through the service hole and on the black plate are two Phillips screws, also on the back white plate are two of the same screws. Take them out!
Now here's the painstaking bit. With the door open (obviously as I have it's guts in my hand) I push the lock into locked position with a screwdriver, lock the car with the key fob and PRIZE OPEN SLIGHTLY the black plate of the lock and let loose half a can of WD40 into it (not really half a can but it was a lot), unlocked the car with the fob and then pulled the outside handle.... nothing. I then pulled the wire to the inside handle (as it's not at the moment connected) and as expected the lock opened. So I prized the black plate open again and loosed another load of WD40 into it. 3/4 times this went on for, locking the mech with a screwdriver, locking and opening the door with the fob and then pulling the outside handle until HEY PRESTO! It opened!. I then put the lock mech back in place, temporarily hung the door card back on without fastening it and shut the door properly, locked and unlocked the car and pulled the outside handle and it opened sweet as a nut! It's then a case of in reverse order putting everything back. I did take some photos but 1 my phone won't let me put them on here and 2 my phone died half way through the job, but if needed I'll try posting what I did get on here when I get half an hour to allow my slow *** pc boot up.
Hope this helps others, I'm no mechanic by no means but I found the job to be pretty easy, I'd say 3/10 for difficulty but then I was lucky enough to have the correct tools for the job. If anyone needs guidance or wants to ask questions then feel free and I'll help out as much as I can. It's my first Audi and have had many cars from ford, rover, fiat, VW, BMW and Renault and must say, hands down the B8 is by far the best car I've ever owned!
