What does the red marks on the drain plug indicate.

Usually any paint mark on anything that needs to be torqued up at the factory assembly line means that it has been done.

I thought it was a 'seal' across, for example, a nut and any visible thread, or a bolt across to the surrounding metal, to determine whether it had been unscrewed or otherwise interfered with.

gresty's reply is more plausible!

This is what I'm looking at, I paid £169 for a service and I'm unsure if it got done, on a video of a DSG oil change the sump nut appears to have nothing on it but it is a Jetta and a USA model, mine while doing the lump oil last week has two red dots on the drain plug and casing inline.

What I am trying to find out is was the red there from the factory or is it something the dealer does incase someone messes about with it later and causes a failure which VW won't want to be accountable for.

As I witnessed many cans of brake fluid not go into folks cars many moons ago because it was a bonus killer job I'm wondering if the tech didn't bother, I will have the filter out soon to see what that looks like, but even then there's still no garantee it's had the oil dropped as well.

Last VAG car for me I think, I have siren turbo and the strut bearing I replaced 3 mths ago is shot already, as there is evidence that the car has been hit in that area I think she's twisted slightly and that is why I can hear the spring bonging again, add in the feeling that the engine is travelling after stopping in the dry, wet it goes so it must be an exposed part causing it, not good enough imo, never had such weak components on any VX I've owned, this car is more Pug than VW tbh.
