Time to replace my trusty 54 plate manual 1.9 Tdi Avant sport that I've owned since 2007 and I'm considering a 2010 2.7 Tdi Quattro Avant Le Mans.
Obviously I'm familiar with the A6 Avant aspect and I also have a manual A4 3.2 Quattro convertible for the girlie, that I'm very impressed with, which has prompted my interest in a Quattro for myself this time.
Manual transmission examples are thin on the ground at best, tho!
I'm all too familiar with the A4 CVT reliability woes, plus I've previously suffered premature auto box £failures with a BMW 530i & E Class merc. :(
I'm (not unreasonably IMO) deeply distrusting of high mileage auto gearbox reliability, so - should I sack the Quattro plan and stick with a manual transmission for my daily driver? (I'd be planning to keep the car up to around 120K miles.)
Any reliability experiences or pointers for the 2.7 Tdi Quattro Auto drivetrain?
Also - how well does the factory Bluetooth integrate with iPhones and what functionality could I expect? (Steering wheel & phonebook control?)
Thanks in advance for any advice.

quattro has no multi gearbox so good old zf and its very reliable, but if i recall 2.7 will have multi if front wheel drive and 3.0 tdi will be quattro zf box
iphone works fully with mfsw and contacts no problem as you transfer data via hands free profile so the only down side is you use the phones gsm not the cars
quattro is superior to front wheel drive and a must in my eyes so 3.0 tdi is the choice hands down

LOL ruggedscot, obviously lending me the use of her car takes the 'impressive priority'. ;)
Thanks for info A8 tech.:beerchug:
Can I reliably control the music/iPod aspect from the steering wheel, when using an iPhone/iPad via Bluetooth?
I've clearly been plot misled regarding V6 diesel quattros:Blush: - I now realise that the tdi quattros are 3.0...
I'd be happy with a 2.0 Tdi manual quattro and I'm a tad disappointed that they aren't available, also baffled by why the only AUC manual quattros I can find aren't available until December on 61 plates @ £30K.

You haven't been completely misled. The 2.7 TDI is available in 2wd or quattro.

Thanks AxeMurderer, so WTGDF is the sketch, then?
All I could find on the AUC list for a manual transmission quattro A6 Avant is (Dec 2011 available) Sep 2011 cars...
Why are there two so closely related engines (2.7 & 3.0) available if it isn't a build date related thing?

Audi knows markets and fits in with them - the new A6 has two 3.0 TDi's but different power outputs and I believe that there will be three versions soon. so dont worry about the sizes. the 2.7 is good and suits the fwd but the 3.0 I think really needs the 4wd through the torque. Ive always liked a manual so happy to take a 2.7 over the 3.0 and the scarce manuals on that size.

You may have a point M3 Compact. According to my research, the 2.7 is available as a manual 2wd, or auto quattro. If you want a manual quattro you'll have to go for the 3.0.

Thanks for the input.
Any more info on the music functionality of the OE Bluetooth with an iPhone?

Pretty sure there isn't any. If your car has AMI (Audi Music Interface) then you can connect the iPhone via a cable and control it via the steering wheel and/or MMI controls. But I don't think you can play music via bluetooth (I can't).
Caveat: I don't actually have AMI (yet), and I have MMI 2G whereas a 2010 would have MMI 3G. Also, I was wrong about the 2.7 transmissions, though I think I'm right on this!

Nope you can't stream music via the Bluetooth but you can on the new C7 model.
As AxeMurderer says, you would need AMI for external music.
The iPhone is accessed via hands free mode but software inside the phone allows it to act like a rSap phone with phonebook being shown in car.
You are correct on your last statement Axe, a 2010 car would have 3G mmi :)

Hi guys,
It is possible to stream music via Bluetooth - you need AMI and a USB Bluetooth a2dp adapter which plugs in to the AMI. Genuine Audi ones are roughly £100 and you can get them from your local dealer.

Or the other way to do it is to buy a cheap 2nd hand ipod which lives permanently in the glovebox. No need to faff around with dongles etc. Just keep the music content mirrored to the iphone.
