View Full Version : Coming home lights retro fit 9and i have searched for weeks )

Been trying to get this working for weeks now , i recently found out i have a high line central electronics module so i thought that would make it easier., this is a post of mine from another audi forum , jon (a8 tech ) or anyone else reading this can help it would be of great help .
Right after spending hours looking into this i found this guide from audizine.
http://bigskyeuro.com/images/gallery/mikewire/pdf/CHLH_retrofit.pdf
And with that i presumed that all i needed was a new switch and vcds .
So i ordered a new switch with both height adjust ch/lh , tonight i fitted the switch and coded the car ................................nothing
After checking everything i noticed this.
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6098/6263727543_a8734bedae_z.jpg
the headlight adjuster lights up as do the numbers as i turn it so it all works fine, the ch/lh symbol lights up but not the 0-1(on-off) can anyone with this feature fitted check if it is meant to be lit as i think it should .
Could it be a faulty switch or is there no power to the switch itself.
thanks .

Long shot, has anyone got a copy of elsawin could you look at the pinout detail of the ch / lh switch I think I need to add a repair wire but not sure which one.
Thanks

easy way to tell if you have highline j519 is to disconnect the headlight switch and the headlights will come on
ok i will post up a wiring diag for coming home lights
Thanks jon , yes they did come on when i disconnected the headlight switch , i remembered it as i though it was odd at the time .
Thanks

Thanks jon much appreciated , i will print them off tomorrow and try and decipher it .
Jon , I've looked and studied the diagrams you posted I also ordered a copy of elsawin but I still can't work this out , I'm sure it only needs a single repaired wire as I have highline, but as for which one and where it goes from and to that's where I get stuck.
Any help much appreciated .

look at e491 (this is the Deactivation switch for surround lighting)this should be the switch so you need to check pin 7 and 4 are wired

pin 7 is the on/off and 4 is illumination looking at the two wiring diagrams one without and one with coming home, the term used for coming home looks like surround lighting which causes confusion

Does this thread (http://audiforum.us/threads/how-to-fit-auto-lights-with-coming-home-function.5381/) provide any help? The guide is for a B6 - I'm not sure how different/similar they are.

the wiring diagrams are for b7 so if the pins 1,2,3,5 and 8 are populated for e491 then just add wires from pin 4 and 7 to t32b at the central electrics and encode and adapt j519 address 09 for the function
basically one wire is illumination of the switch and the other is the on/off setting for j519 switch status

Not yet but I will do at some point when I get time.
Thanks again Jon, I now have a better idea, going to get a couple of repair wires from a dealer and have proper go at this when I get time .

Ok I looked at your sport-net post and the link to audizine
Today whilst bored I tried my own circuit for none highline and standard switch 2004 B6 avant
It worked but not how the audizine post shows
I looked at the differences between high and low and decided to utilize the j393 function from the interior lights
So the interior lights switch earth when unlocking for approx 30 seconds, however the interior light wire receive's its signal from j393 and this is live until the unlock command then a bi directional possible pwm signal and then it switches earth
I wired in a relay to convert switched earth to switched live then the second relay to deliver the final output to the fog lights
The only down side is the fogs come on for a short period when the ignition key is removed as the interior lights
I have only run a dummy rig so will wire in fully later this week and do a video of the lights
There is no switch for the auto lights fitted just direct function with remote fob for unlocking signal
Link into pin 5 on the interior light
1st relay
Bridge din terminal 30 and 85 and link the interior light wire into this
Terminal 87 goes to the second relay pin 86
Terminal 85 goes to 30 fuse supply
2nd relay standard operation switching live on the secondary output
Bridge 30 and 85 to 30 fuse supply
86 receives its signal from 87 of the first relay
87 is the output to the two fog light feeds
Lock the car then unlock with the remote and the front fogs now light up for the duration of the interior lights then auto switch off
If you remove the ignition key the s contact switches the interior lights on and the front fogs for the normal time then auto switches off
As I said I will wire in fully and test again before committing and address my second relay buzzing which may be down to the signal wire earth or brief pwm signal
So in short all I have done is use the j393 unlock command for interior lighting and converted the switched earth to switched live to power the front fogs for the period the j393 signal lasts
However its far from ready as a "how to" without error and i need a new j393 due to giving a live to the input by accident :aargh4:

Great write up jon
I've still not got round to having a go at mine but I've got some time off over Christmas to have a go and if that fails ill bring it to you at some point can do the remote roof module at the same time :-).
Just an update to this thread, I can confirm that if you have a highline module (mine ends in n) that you can get this working with 2 repair wires and coding, it will work as oem only thing is it will work day and night as I don't have a light sensor screen fitted which I'm okay with.
