Hello, Could anyone tell me how easy or otherwise it is to remove the A6 Allroad exterior aluminium door trims from a C6 4F car 2006. Mine are showing signs of corrosion and it would be easier and better if I could polish them up off the car so as not to damage the paintwork.

Thanks in anticipation,

Michael

I have heard conflicting stories. Some say that they are clipped on (thats what the workshop manual says). Others say they are also riveted, meaning you would have to drill out the rivet and put new rivets in on install.

Try some 'eagle one never dull'. It's great at sorting that stuff out. If you are worried about the paint, tape around the chrome before you start with 3m detailing tape. That way, you might be able to get a dremel on them with a polishing tip.

Hello Josh,

Thanks for the reply.

I had never heard of Nevr dull before and I looked at it on youtube, seems good, but there are some serious marks and oxidisation especially on the leading edges which face forward and get hit bt stone chippings so it would be good to get the strips off, I think they need a bit more oomph to get them looking good than I would be happy with by just taping the paint.

Looking at the bottom of the inside of the doors there is a small screw front and rear, I wonder if I were to remove these screws and try to gently lever the strips from the bottom they might just pop off the clips. I am just a bit worried about damaging the paintwork, like when you try to get some Audi centre caps off the wheels it is easy to mark the paint.

Regards,

Michael

Personally, I would give it a go and take them off. Rivets are no big deal, and a rivet gun costs only a few pounds. I have one and they are easy to use.
