Anyone had problems with notchy manual gear-shift.
Mione seems to have got a lot worse lately now I've done about 12k miles. It is still same cold or after a run, can this be adjusted ?

I think you may be trying to change gear a little too early. I have always found that the cars like a few revs to open up the gate before changing gear, the key thing is to ignore or disable the gear indicator as it will always want you to change gear at the wrong time.

Give it a go and let us know how you get on.

mine is pretty notching - complained lots of times and last time they adjusted it they moved 1st into the reverse slot!

had new clutch and flywheel but didnt make much difference so must be the actual box.

My 170Se is the same, really notchy when cold, but seems to get better the warmer it gets, dealers have had it back 3 times but its still the same, and all they say is that its normal.

at about 12k, mine got notchy. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed fault with clutch. Had a new clutch and flywheel under warranty. After it was done I noticed that the clutch pedal was much smoother than before, so there must have been something wrong!
Since then the gearbox is silky smoth, no notchiness at all in any gear at any speed. Now at 92k, still like new.

Hi All, I need some advice please...
I bought an Audi A4 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/dp/B001PQSEOC), 2011, tecknik 170 bhp TDI 2.0 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/-/dp/B00EUYMNPM) start stop. Its under three month warranty and i have only driven 2k since i bought. I noticed that gear is a bit notchy in 1 and 2 (it does change gear but it feels as if it hits something before slotting in - and need a positive pressure to put into gear but make NO noise or smell).

The clutch pulsing ever so slightly when you just rest or about to pressed it down. Two gear specialist saying they can't fault the car, one of them saying worst case scenario it needs a new clutch. The car has done 75k now. I tested for clutch slipping, it stalls of you pull away from 2 or 3, and on high rev at , 6 gear pulls away very nicely without hesitation.

I drove another Audi exactly like mine and same mileage - the gear felt exactly the same.

The garage saying they can replace the clutch but only paying for labour and i have to pay for parts since its wear and tear - even though its under three month warranty and felt the gear is like this since i bought but reported later once i realised it could be an issue.

The gear feels better when it's warmer - they changed the gear box oil too its a bit smoother but still feels that annoying obstruction and force to go into 1 and 2, its almost like you have to push -retract hand and push again then it goes in nicely.

Any help would be much appreciated - also legal advice if i have against the dealer - i bought it on debit card so i know about the charge back scheme too.

Thank you

Have they checked the alignment of the rods on the gearbox ? There are several videos on youtube for VW cars.

VW also now recommend a slightly different spec in the oil for the 6 speed box. The oil they put in it has to go worldwide, so might be better in hot countrys like US of A, but not so good here

I had a few replies to my post on changing gearbox oil in A6 A6 2.0 tdi manual Gearbox/ Transmission how to oil change (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/170470-A6-2-0-tdi-manual-Gearbox-Transmission-how-to-oil-change)
