Hi folks, I have recently got a 2007 A6 Avant (2.0 TDi SE) with a manual gearbox. The car has done 50k.

I noticed that when I took it for a test drive that the clutch had a slight judder occasionally when pulling away from a standstill in 1st gear. This can be made better or worse depending on the revs used when pulling away - low revs makes it worse than it is if I use quite a few (if that makes sense?)

Also, I have noticed that when I accelerate above about 65mph (ish) there is also a vibration that can be felt through the car (and also the clutch pedal a bit). This is definitely worse when accelerating that it is when it is just cruising or coasting. I've had the wheels rebalanced as I initially thought that this might be the cause but it has made little or no difference.

My question is what is/are the likely causes? I have a feeling that the DMF might be the suspected problem, but as I am new to Audi's I thought that I would ask you kind folks first. I need to know likely problems so I can go back to the garage that I bought it from armed with some knowledge.

Many thanks in advance!

Before I leap in and spread clutch and flywheel related doom and gloom, I have had a clutch judder from cold since I got the car 15000 miles ago and it's not got any worse and it's absent when the car is hot. In addition, I had what felt like a wheel balancing issue that was sorted by 4 wheel alignment. I now have a different lower frequency vibration at full throttle in 5th/6th at motorway speeds which i worry may actually be the flywheel... but until it gets much worse I'm leaving it.

The clutch juddering doesn't alter whether it is hot or cold.

sure its not tyres? I changed my tyres and found any wobble and high speed shudder dissapeared

Who was that to? If it was me the vibration/wobble only happens under hard throttle at low revs in high gear and disappears when coasting or with a light throttle... I'm saving furiously... anyway, winters will be on soon which will be a new set so we'll see what difference that makes.

dunno, wasnt aimed at anyone in particular. probably should go to bed. point i was making is that tyres can make a difference with noise related issues at speed. but then again, so could loads of things...goodnight!

I heard that the high pressure fuel pump on these cars is known to go wrong & can give a shudder/wobble feel (typically at motorway speeds) that would feel like a wheel balncing issue. Maybe someone with more technical know-how could advise us on this?

Also, I have exactly the same problem on my car when pulling away in 1st, I've been informed it definitely is the dual mass flywheel.

To be fair to the garage, they are having it back in again next week to check it out - it looks like they are going to put a new clutch (and possibly DMF) in while it is there - so hopefully fingers crossed!

If anyone is interested I'll post the results on here when the work is done - it might help someone else out if they are searching for similar symptoms in the future. Obviously if anyone else has any suggestions then please feel free to post them on here in the meantime.
